Thank you for your feedback. I apologize for the confusion over the tax payment. I normally put an invoice in the room that shows exactly what is necessary for payment. I neglected to do that. So sorry. Airbnb had been lobbying our legislature to allow them the ability to collect and pay that tax payment for the homeowners. It was rejected by the legislature.
On the (Hidden by Airbnb) website that I use, the taxes are collected for the homeowner. Airbnb will not do that for us. In any case, the homeowner must always pay the taxes directly to the State of Hawaii. Yes, the building is old but along with that is the luxury of the view and the cost of the rental being so much less than comparable hotels that charge $500 - 600 per night for the same view.
It is a trade off! We love sharing our place with nice people like you and I do appreciate your feedback!. Let me know if you would like an itemized invoice for that taxes of 9.25% TRANSIENT ACCOMMODATIONS and 4.712% GENERAL EXCISE TAX.
