A perfect holiday!
La Petite Maison is a delight. It is furnished simply but with great charm. The beds are super comfortable, the facilities perfect. Although it is only a small house, there is a hotplate, a fridge, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave, plus a cupboard of crockery, glasses and cooking equipment. More importantly for us, it has character.
Madame Jourdan-Barry was an essential part of our holiday. She was welcoming, helpful, available whenever we needed her, informative about the history of the estate and the various buildings - great fun and very funny.
The pool is large and clean, situated in a walled garden. In fact it was so good, and the weather so hot, that we spent time there every day - despite the fact that there are so many other places to swim locally! The Creuse is clean and beautiful. On every trip we saw hundreds of butterflies and dragonflies, fish, lots of frogs and a kingfisher as well as lots of other birds. And an extra bonus, you can walk to the river bathing area from La Petite Maison.
We also canoed (there's a huge choice of places to do it), visited Angles sur l'Anglin, a beautiful medieval village, spent a day in the ancient buildings of Poitiers and another in the Brenne Parc Naturel. There's a lot to do and see and, if we had had worse weather, we probably would have done and seen more!
At night the estate is almost completely dark, lit only by stars and the moon once the village streetlights are off. As city people this isn't something we've often experienced. It's incredibly quiet and has a wonderful atmosphere.
We highly recommend La Petite Maison
