Our beautiful Tabernacle with its quirky woodland wallpaper is walking distance to a fabulous village pub and close to several beaches and Dartmoor National Park with great countryside views of it's own private valley. You’ll love it because of the secluded location, where you can star gaze at night from your own hot tub - you might even catch site of our resident barn owl, badgers or deer. A romantic place for couples where we have recently hosted several honeymoons and engagements!

Our Cornish Tabernacle is utterly endearing with its stained glass window and tiny bell tower. One guest described it as “A wonderful retreat – beautifully fitted out“, the Tabernacle features a comfortable double bed with sumptuous bed linen, sweet woodland wallpaper, and vintage furniture. Couples can cosy up inside with a hot chocolate by the wood burning stove, or relax outside with a glass of bubbly in the wood-fired hot tub.
Our Tabernacle is based on the historic design of the traditional ‘tin tabernacles’, once used by Methodist preachers throughout the South West.
It was created for us by a very lovely Cornish company using salvaged materials to give it heaps of personality.
STEP INSIDE THE TABERNACLE
You will be whisked up to the Tabernacle by Landrover. Outside is a decked area with two Adirondack chairs and a dining area leading to the hot tub. The pretty porch leads into an open-plan living space which is small but perfectly formed.
There is a rocking chair next to the stove and a hand built kitchen (including a sink, two ring induction hob and fridge with ice box). The stove can also be used for cooking – toast marshmallows in the flames, let a casserole simmer on the top or let your coffee percolate.
At one end of the room is a built in bed, with plenty of storage for clothes and a Roberts radio. At the other is a well-fitted shower room with a flushing loo and washbasin (hot water on tap, of course).
A MAGICAL, PEACEFUL PLACE
The Tabernacle is tucked into a dip on the side of the hill and is in its own meadow and is separate from the three safari tents on site. Brownscombe is a car-free zone – you and your luggage will be magically transported from the car park in our trusty Landrover. You’ll feel completely private and at peace, with only birdsong to disturb you. There is a Games Barn with wifi, a laundry room with dryer, a Larder where you can order breakfast or supper (the Cassoulet made from our home reared pork sausages is a favourite) and an honesty shop to pick up some of our freshly laid chicken eggs or local ice cream.

STARGAZE FROM THE HOT TUB
Tucked into a sheltered spot just outside is our wood-fired hot tub. We provide all the firewood, enough to keep it toasty and for you to relax and enjoy it all day long!
Watch the sun set while sipping bubbly in the hot tub, or lie back in comfy garden chairs with a fire crackling in the barbecue fire pit and gaze at stars so bright they’ll take your breath away.
I moved back to Devon from London in 2012 after 20+ years of city life, to buy the family farm and to give our twin girls a taste of rural life. In 2015 we started Brownscombe Luxury Glamping with 3 Safari Tents and our gorgeous Tin Tabernacle. We love it here and look forward to sharing our tranquil valley with you as well as our pigs, ducks, chickens, farm cat and Molly the labrador and Margot the mischievous pug!
