$98 Autumn Special runs October 17 to November 22!
Nestled at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, 20 mins from Taos, 20 mins from Taos Ski Valley and 5 mins (or a 20 min walk) from the beautiful, artsy village of Arroyo Seco. This sweet, little one bedroom home is perfect for couples, single travelers and couples with small children (there is a pullout couch).
The Juniper House was built by my dad, Keith, in the 90's as a long-term rental property. We recently renovated it to be a vacation rental. It is located on an acre of land, along with another (long-term) rental.
This small home (750 sq ft.) is perfect for a couple, a couple with young children, a single traveler or a small group of travelers (no more than 4) that would be happy with each other in a small space.
We have set this rental up like our homes, with attention to every detail.
Here's the breakdown:
* Bedroom: queen sized bed, down comforter
* Fully equipped kitchen
* Living area with kiva fireplace, Direct TV and pullout couch (queen)
* Office area with space for laptop
* Dining area for four
* Bathroom: shower with all the amenities
* Front porch
* Back yard
* Amazing views, peace and quiet

In the bedroom, you will find a queen size bed, made with fresh cotton sheets, a down comforter, nice pillows and a blanket, perfect for cozying up under to read a book or taking a nap. There are two bedside tables, with reading lamps, and a closet with hangers. Out the window, you can watch the sunrise over Taos Mountain or just enjoy the beauty of the snowcapped peaks, through open curtains.
The kitchen is equipped with a full-size refrigerator with freezer, gas-burning stove, sink (no dishwasher), microwave, toaster, coffee maker, crockpot, blender, pots and pans, dishes and serving dishes. We have included all the things we consider essentials in our kitchens, including a garlic press, lemon juicer, baking dishes, a pie pan and muffin tin, souffle dish, tea cups and wine glasses, to name a few. There are spices (some from our garden), tea, local coffee, and essential condiments (mustard, ketchup, hot sauce). It's a sweet little kitchen, with views of the mountains and a half-wall, looking into the main living area.
The bathroom has a shower with a small bathtub (good for kids). Plush towels, hand towels, and washcloths are provided, as well as shampoo, conditioner, and soap. There is a linen closet with extra towels and essentials. A nice view out the window to the west makes the room bright with natural light in the afternoon.
The entry hall contains a closet, with more than enough room to store coats and shoes. The closet has a broom, mop and cleaning supplies (in case you need them). There is a little table to drop your belongings on as you enter the house.
The main room consists of a living room, dining area, and office space.
The living room has a (really comfy) couch and leather chair, two other chairs, and an entertainment stand (that can be closed up). The centerpiece of this space is a wood-burning, kiva fireplace. Though this is not the primary heat source (there is radiant floor heating), a cozy fire can add an extra special feel to your stay at The juniper House. The couch is a really nice pullout, with a comfy blow-up mattress, great for kids or two adults (but remember, the house is small).
The office space has an antique desk (with room for laptop) and a chair, with a writing pad, pens and pencils, and other essentials (like rubber bands, paperclips, a calendar). You can connect to the Wi-Fi and enjoy the views of the mountain out the glass doors while you work or check your emails.
The dining area consists of a small table with a table cloth and chairs, suitable for four. With views of the mountains to the east and mesas to the west, as well as views of the kitchen and the fireplace, this sweet dining area will make any meal special.
From the parking lot, you will see the front of the house, a little porch, with a bench, chair and a stack of wood (in the late fall/winter/early spring). It's a nice area for enjoying the sunsets or just admire the views to the west.
In the main living area, there are double glass doors (with curtains), that open to a little yard on the east side of the house. From here you have amazing views of the Sangre de Cristos. There is an old juniper tree to the south that is fun for kids to play in.
This house shares one acre of land with another of our long-term rentals. The parking lot is shared, but the house feels pretty secluded. The back yard is very privet.
We recommend having an all wheel drive (or four-wheel drive) vehicle for your stay in Taos.
Not only is The Juniper House located down a 1/2 mile dirt road (muddy and/or snowy in the fall/winter/spring), but some of the best places to explore in our area are best visited with a vehicle like this.
The parking lot is gated from the road (the neighbors have horses that will get in otherwise).
Upon entering the house, everything is very private. The back yard gives you a nice, secluded space outdoors.

Our family has been here since the 1940's, so we know the area well. We would be glad to share our knowledge with you. (We have a binder in The Juniper House containing some of our favorite spots to dine, visit, shop and explore... as well as places to pick up the essentials.)
