Welcome! Our house (The Willows) is nestled in a prominent position in the centre of the village of Tarskavaig. The Willows is a modern croft house set inside a traditional operating croft. My wife and I live here with our two young children, dog and two cats. We also have two cows and a flock of hens. Tarskavaig offers a unique feel of traditional crofting life along with a very quiet and peaceful backdrop, so is the perfect place to come for a relaxing 'get away from it all' holiday.
At the Willows we offer 2 unique rooms. Both rooms are on the top floor of the building. The main room (Room 1) (https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/17933589) is a spacious modern room with a super-king size bed, a single bed and a compact en-suite shower room attached. This is a lovely bright room with a dormer window and 2 velux windows and an outstanding view out to sea towards the Island of Rum.
The second room, this listing (Room 2) is also spacious and modern and has both a single and double bed, so can offer twin or double accommodation. This room has a large, separate, private bathroom accessed a couple of meters across the upstairs landing. Note, the bathroom does not have a separate shower cubicle, but there is a shower head and glass screen in the bath, so it is easy to shower if preferred. The view from this room is from a large double window on the gable end which beautifully catches the morning sunlight. On the upstairs landing, directly outside this room, is the breakfast serving area and some guest seating. Both rooms have a 32" television with Satellite connection, tea and coffee facilities, and the house offers free 20Mb WiFi.
Check in time is generally 1700hrs-2100hrs, but if you need earlier or later we should be able to accommodate, just please request with us when booking.
Guests are allowed access to the upstairs of the house only, although the main access to the house is through the front door on the downstairs level. Each room has ample seating and TV / WiFi, also tea and coffee facilities. There is also some seating available on the top landing around the breakfast area should guests wish.

Tarskavaig is a small crofting community approximately 7 miles from the A851 main road down a very interesting single track road. Please be aware that the road is not to everyone's taste and a confident driver is required to drive it, it is certainly not for people with a nervous disposition due to the steep gradients and blind corners / summits! The road is not recommended for large vehicles or caravans. There are no shops or any other facilities available in the village with the nearest being around 10 miles away at Armadale which has some small local shops, tea rooms, post office, garage etc. The nearest large settlement is Broadford approximately 20 miles away which offers many more facilities including a 24hr shop and garage. As a result of our remoteness it is advised to pack accordingly otherwise you would likely need to make a 1hr+ round trip to visit Broadford for supplies.
Mobile phones do not work in the village, but we do have fast Broadband in the house, so communication through that method is excellent.
We offer a continental breakfast at the Willows, generally bread, toast, oatcakes, crackers, tea, filter coffee, fruit juice, cheese, cold meats, cold boiled eggs, jams and preserves, yoghurt and fresh fruit. This menu will change daily depending on availability. Breakfast is served 0700hrs to 0830hrs.
If you wish to heat up food in our kitchen, you may do so by prior arrangement, but the food must be consumed at the kitchen table, not in the bedroom. This service is only available between 1900hrs-2030hrs.
We can offer a laundry service, washing / drying at £10 per load. Please supply the laundry to us by 2100hrs at the very latest as the washing / drying will take around 2hrs to complete.
Hot water is available 24hrs, but the central heating operates on a timer system in the morning and evening. In cold weather we will happily turn the heating on outside of the regularly timed operation.
Both your room and the front internal door have locks. You will be issued with both of these keys on your arrival. The front internal door is to remain locked at all times.
The toilets, shower and bath are connected to a private septic tank system, so please do not throw any materials down the toilet other than toilet paper and human waste. Use bin provided for sanitary products etc.
From the A87 at Broadford take the A851 junction towards Armadale / Ardvasar. After approximately 14 miles turn right immediately after the ‘Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’ Gaelic College, signposted ‘Achnacloich / Tarskavaig / Tokavaig’. Continue on the single track road for approximately 7 miles and when approaching the village of Tarskavaig, with the Village Hall on the right, take the left turn down the hill in to the village. The Willows is the 2nd house on the right just past a large green shed with a long wooden fence in the front.
If arriving via the Mallaig to Armadale ferry: When you have exited the ferry area turn right and continue on (passing the Clan Donald Centre on your left) for approximately 2 miles and turn left at the signpost for ‘Achnacloich / Tarskavaig / Tokavaig’. Continue then as previously advised.
