We loved our stay at Muriel's recently restored and renewed country house in the quiet village of Touzac. The house is very comfortable for six people (two double rooms and a large and comfortable sofa bed), and both bedrooms and bathrooms are roomy and tastefully decorated, with big windows onto the lovely chestnut (I think) tree in front of the house. The kitchen is small but very well equipped, and there is plenty of good cutlery and nice crockery, so really nice for cooking at home and dining out in the garden as we did in most nights. If the weather is not good, there is a nice big dining room table too. And everything is spotlessly clean.
The sitting room is comfortable, again with nice big windows facing the garden and tree in front. So if the weather had not been good, we would have been quite happy to spend time indoors too.
Touzac is a small village, so nice and quiet, but with Le Doci, Muriel's' restaurant right in front of the house. We had a menu du jour lunch there one day, and that was very nicely chosen, cooked and served, and great value for money. We also loved the area, as there are plenty of small villages and towns to visit nearby, and we loved going to swim in the Charente river, at the Baigne des Dames in Chateauneuf (where we also rented kayaks to spend the day canoeing down river). The coast is only an hour or so away, and we spent a nice day on Ile de Ré, cycling around on rented bikes and then visiting the very attractive town of La Rochelle.
So, all in all, this is a fantastic house, well-cared for house to spend a few days with friends or family in beautiful countryside, with the possibility of either doing nothing but enjoy it, or many other things that can be done in this wine-growing area. Highly recommended.
