As of February 2019, there are over 1600 short term rentals listed in Charleston. 1300 are not licensed and approved to operate by The City of Charleston. I have taken the time, paid the fees and been through the inspections.

Private room in my 1930 Charleston bungalow. Located in the Wagener Terrace neighborhood of peninsular Charleston, SC. Situated on the upper end of the peninsula, you are 1.9 miles to the corner of King and Calhoun Streets. The Heart of the Historic District.

Your bedroom is located in the rear of my house, away from the street. Comfy Queen sized bed and private bath are yours to enjoy. There are two doors to your bedroom. The hallway door leads to the rest of the house. The rear door of the bedroom opens to the kitchen and bathroom. It’s sort of like having your own guest suite. If you do not want to interact, just close the hallway door and only use the rear door to the bedroom. My room and bath are located up front.

People who are here to enjoy the rich history and fine dining at Charleston has to offer. Day trips to the beach, touring old homes and plantations.

Business people who enjoy privacy and quiet to get work done while in town or between meetings.

Long term guests that are here on extended business trips, exchange programs or those visiting the hospital(patients or family of patients). I limit my bookings to 10 days, however extended stays can be discussed. Please feel free to contact me if any of these situations apply.

This is my home, and I expect you to treat it like yours. That being said, I keep my bedroom and bathroom private. A second bedroom Is currently used for storage. The kitchen and living areas are at your disposal within reasonable limits. I have a large front porch with an old-fashioned porch swing and vintage chairs. There is a full coffee/tea station at your disposal. Rather than using stove, I have provided a countertop convection/toaster oven/air fryer.

1.9 miles to the corner of Calhoun and King streets. I would consider that basically the center of downtown. That puts you in the heart of the Historic District.

However, don’t let my neighborhood fool you. Wagner Terrace and the surrounding areas have lots to offer. Off the top of my head, this is a list of restaurants and bars available without dealing with the traffic and tourism...

I live on Upper Rutledge Ave. It runs from I-26 all the way down to the Waterfront Battery of Charleston. In front of me is the neighborhood called Wagener Terrace, behind me is North Central.

ABOUT WAGENER TERRACE

Built along the Ashley River in downtown Charleston, Wagener Terrace is a revitalized neighborhood on the peninsula that attracts, families, young professionals and students alike. Different from the boroughs of the peninsula, Wagener Terrace offers the downtown convenience without the hustle and bustle of an urban lifestyle. It is a true residential community, composed mainly of single family homes with spacious front and backyards.

History
The history of Wagener Terrace dates back to the late 1800’s when William Lowndes sold his 34 acre, waterfront plantation to Frederick Wagener. When Wagener bought the property, Lowndes had completely remodeled the main home, and today, it still remains a stunning 14 acre estate nestled on the banks of the Ashley River and has become a National Historic Place. Wagener and his family lived happily on the plantation until 1917 when he sold it to James Sottile, who then moved into the main home and split 20 acres of the land into residential lots, calling the future neighborhood “Wagener Terrace Subdivision.”Construction began in the 1920’s and continued through the 40’s. The cottages and bungalows that were built during this time still remain today, and many have been restored and renovated.

The neighborhood behind me is called North Central... very trendy with many mixed use properties and great new restaurants and breweries.

I am a South Carolina native! Born in the PeeDee area of the state, I spent much time in Charleston with family. Showed up for Thanksgiving dinner in '93 with bags hidden away in the trunk. Managed to talk my way into an invitation to stay the weekend... the rest is history. Most of my time i spent working in the hospitality industry in Charleston (primarily restaurants). Bought my house back in 2000. Years later I'm still finishing little projects here and there. So just ignore those missing baseboards in the kitchen. Or feel free to grab a hammer and help me out. After years in the hospitality industry, I relished some time to myself . On a whim, I started driving for Uber. Discovered what freedom of schedule was all about. Now I am embracing the gig economy. I continue to drive for Uber, squeeze in some concierge services from time to time, and now I'm hosting guests in my home. My house tends to be overly stuffed with Family Furniture and things I picked up here and there. My mother still stops in occasionally to weed a few things out. Sometimes she adds pieces she has outgrown. I am constantly trying to blend the old with the new. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But overall it's a comfortable house with lots of Southern tradition.

I do not adhere to any particular schedule, so I’m in an out at strange times. This should not affect your stay as your bedroom is in the back of the house and mine is in the front. I do prefer Guests enter and exit through the front of the house. My back steps and yard are not quite where I would like them to be. I do not want guests to feel as if they are sequestered in their room. I can interact as much or as little as you would like. I’m full of suggestions and opinions about what to do and where to go.
