Tämä on yksi tämän alueen harvoista kohteista, joissa on tämä mukavuus.
Erinomaista vieraanvaraisuutta
8 viimeaikaista vierasta kehui majoittajaa Lyndsey erinomaisesta vieraanvaraisuudesta.
Staying in the Merchant City means staying in the heart of Glasgow. A ten minute walk finds you on bustling Buchanan Street, with transport hub Queen Street train station on the way. High Street station is less than one minute walk away.

Please note I don’t provide breakfast but tea and coffee is available and you will have access to the open plan living room and kitchen (+ cooking facilities).

Tila
The bedroom hosts a king size, memory foam bed, black out blind and exclusive use of a private bathroom with both bath and shower. This is a fifth floor flat within a modern building with two elevators.

Although bright and airy, the flat stays lovely and cosy and is a thoroughly welcoming space.

The city centre (Buchanan Street) is less than ten minutes walk, with High Street Station less than one minute and Queen Street station less than ten.

There are many must-see landmarks close by, including Glasgow GoMA (Gallery of Modern Art), The Necropolis and the Clock Tower.

The area surrounding the flat is a hub of gorgeous restaurants and bars- you’ll not be short of things to do!

Glasgow, Skotlanti, Britannia

The Merchant City is filled with designer boutiques, renovated warehouse cafes and gourmet Scottish, Indian and Mediterranean restaurants. This central area also boasts the Italian Centre (of Glasgow), which hosts an elegant shopping courtyard, branded clothing stores, bakeries and salons.

When staying in the Merchant City, Glasgow (and Scotland) is literally at your feet. Uber’s/taxis are in abundance, very reasonably priced and will happily take you the 3-5 minutes to the city centre or 5-10 minutes to the hub of the West End. The shores of Loch Lomond are a half hour drive and multiple Scottish islands are only a day trip away.

The below is a selection of highlights both close-by and elsewhere in Glasgow. If you are looking for something more specific (or further afield) please let me know as I, or someone I know, can almost certainly make a recommendation.

For dining options below, 2/3 guest can chance a walk-in but telephone numbers are provided below for reservations, which are recommended where relevant:

DINNER- Informal

Steak
Spanish Butcher- moody, romantic interior, think champagne and steak (though not compulsory) try Chateaubriand, sea bass or Galician blond fillet. Truffle fries 👌🏼
(10 min walk- ‭0141 406 9880‬).

Japanese
Sapporo- Winning on location, ie. the ground floor of our building (although you still have to exit to enter- I am working on that). Not fine-dining but above average for scallops, surf & turf and sushi + added teppanyaki theatrics. Service is also excellent.
(0.5 min walk- ‭0141 553 4060‬)

Takeaway
Fish & Chips
Merchant Chippie- just across the road, classic and delicious fish supper (rated #1 flr some Glasgow/Scottish awards I can’t remember which but I definitely voted- please see plaques on the wall!). Try deep fried scallops or for a more authentic Scottish experience try the deep fried pizza and/or Mars bar...

Chinese
Mamafubu
Sister restaurant to Dumpling Monkey (iconic West End eatery). Personal favourites include chicken satay appetiser, which is inauthentic but tasty, followed by Beef Sichuan.

Merchant Square
Once a merchant’s market, this indoor venue is now a destination for eating, drinking and entertainment. A variety of Italian, Irish and Scottish. Craft fair at the weekend.

Irish bars
-O’Neill’s in Merchant Square (see above),
-Waxy O’ Connor’s 44 W George St- multi level, super fun (but not super authentic) venue, always an option for rugby or most sport audiences.

DINNER- informal but further afield and worth a mention;

Five March
Super casual but exceptional tapas-style food and service (currently only vetted for lunch). Hipster, diner style venue. Try the roast carrots. Seriously! I have it on good authority that the margaritas are worth trying at whatever time of day. ‭(10-15 minute drive 0141 573 1400‬)

Sarti’s- Wellington Street ‭0141 248 2228
Semi-authentic but delicious Italian. Wild boar and mozzarella starter and seafood spaghetti. They are in Italian on the menu...

‬ DINNER- Less informal
Formal isn’t the right word, this is a selection of restaurants a cross Glasgow, with a higher expectation;

Bilson Eleven
A dining experience nestled in one of the
most unassuming (also rumoured to be one of the oldest and most iconic) buildings in Glasgow. Paired back decor showcasing a best in class tasting menu.

Ox and Finch & Six by Nico
Fairly close by both worth trying, both delicious- Six by Nico more dramatic (a menu of six course that changes every six weeks)

GIN / COCKTAIL BAR
-Gin 71- No. 4 Merchant City, Virginia Court
-The Spiritualist- Cocktail ‘specialist’- ask for everything with less sugar

-Sapporo- Ground level In our building with an extensive cocktail menu or ask for whatever something bespoke (highly recommend a Sidecar if you like bitter and strong). Also serves food- see informal dining)

-Urban- also great for Sidecars, usually with piano performances at the weekends

BRUNCH- SO many options

Singl-End
Hipster food, less than hipster surroundings- delicious, try the haggis.

Hutcheons
Usually a late-night eatery but try for a Prosecco-fuelled pancake / French toast brunch.

Transeurope Cafe
Highly reviewed cafe with loads of personality and delicious food, more informal leaning to greasy spoon- Merchant City must see?

The Wilson Street Pantry
Delicious (maybe borderline generic) menu and food, often incredibly busy, outside seating available (depending on time of day)

CULTURE/ ACTIVITIES / PLACES of INTEREST
GoMa- Scotland’s most visited modern art gallery; exhibits include works by David Hockney, Sebastião Salgado, and Andy Warhol as well as Scottish artists such as John Bellany and Ken Currie. If Modern Art isn’t your thing, check out a) the building itself b) The equestrian Wellington Statue directly in front of the gallery- this is a statue of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. The statue was sculpted by Italian artist Carlo Marochetti and erected in 1844. Capping the statue with a traffic cone has become a traditional practice in the city, claimed to represent the humour of the local population and believed to date back to the first half of the 1980s, if not before. The statue is a Category-A listed monument, and is one of Glasgow's most iconic landmarks. (10 min walk)

-The Necropolis, a Victorian cemetery offering some of the best views over Glasgow. Recommended visiting hours pre-sunset. (5 min walk)

-Glasgow Cathedral, also called the High Kirk of Glasgow or St Kentigern's or St Mungo's Cathedral is the oldest cathedral on mainland Scotland and is the oldest building in Glasgow. (5 min walk)

Further away (Max 20 minute Uber) check out:

- Byrne’s Road
- Ashton Lane
- Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum
- Riverside Museum (transport museum)
- Botanic Gardens
