Loire Valley - House on the Cher
Loire Valley - House on the Cher
Kohde
Spacious 1870's stone house along the river Cher. 3-bdrm. 2.5 bath, family-rm, office, private patio deck & garden, large kitchen/dining-rm & living-rm salon. Walk/bike path along river to Château de Chenonceau (4km). Welcome to La Pomme Chantante :)
We are central to all of the Loire's major châteaux, on a private passage in the hamlet of Saint Georges, Le Port. This is a special place.
We have three proper bedrooms and a (connected) family room as well as office.
Full access. The property is yours during your stay.
Our lovely caretaker Agnès will typically meet and greet you on arrival. She lives a few houses up on the same passage. You will coordinate with Agnès directly as she accommodates your stay.
The house was built in the late 1800’s for fishermen journeying the river Cher, known in France as a longère. We named it La Pomme Chantant. As you will see, the apple is singing :)
We will send info and instructions detailing the local farmer's markets, as well as shopping, bicycle rentals, etc. At the house you will find binders full of restaurants, wineries and other points of interest.
The (TGV) train station at St. Pierre des Corp (near Tours) is generally the best location to reserve a rental car. Figure 45 minutes to drive to the house from there.
We're less than 2 hrs from Paris by TGV (including a 45 minute drive from St. Pierre des Corps, our closest TGV stop. Alternatively, there is a local train from St. Pierre des Corp, dropping-off at Chissay-en-Touraine or Montrichard).
The drive from Paris is roughly 3 hours; add approximately 45 minutes more from airport Charles de Gaulle (CDG). These times are conservative, but traffic will vary, especially getting around Paris.
We are a 10 minute walk from the local Chissay-en-Touraine train station, which is the very close but infrequent, local stop. The Montrichard train station is less than 10 minutes by car. Taking the local train to and from Tours or St Pierre des Corps is convenient if you align with the scheduling.
Be sure to take advantage of the many country roads (in literally every direction). These are fabulous for biking or driving.
And the walk/bike path along the river is a must for pleasant, mild adventure. Take the path all the way to the Château de Chenonceau if you're up for a bigger adventure. Simply cross the river via the bridge to Chisseaux to get on the entrance-side of the chateau; or else keep on the south (free-side) of the river to see Chenonceau from the back.
Be sure to inquire about the prepared breakfast or dinner menu. Agnès is an experienced chef and can prepare a breakfast of freshly baked, home-made bread + fresh yoghurt and home-made preserves. There are several options for dinner - inquire ahead for menu, details, availability and to reserve.
