Experience Giethoorn at its best and come and enjoy the chic detached Plompeblad,Guesthouse at one of the most beautiful locations of the village. The Guesthouse is located on the waterfront and is surrounded by the typical Giethoorn canals, which gives the village the nickname “Dutch Venice”. Plompeblad Guesthouse is in the heart of the village, amidst the many restaurants the town has.

The Guesthouse is situated in a detached converted barn, mostly on ground level. The exterior looks authentic, just as many original buildings in Giethoorn. Inside you will find a fully equipped country classic décor.

The accommodation is suitable for 2 to 4 adults. Because we believe that your peace and relaxation is important, we have chosen to use an “Adults-Only” policy. Children from 12 years and up are welcome after consultation.

The Guesthouse has its own access and entrance. The living room with open kitchen is located on the ground floor. The high ceilings, the many windows and the light colors give a pleasant feeling of spaciousness. The view from this room is spectacular. There is a comfortable two-seater sofa and two armchairs. The decorative fireplace brings coziness as soon as it gets dark. For entertainment a smart 42 “LED TV is installed, along with a radio/CD player and free WiFi.

The fully equipped open kitchen in country style has a refrigerator, a stove with oven and extractor fan. There is a kettle and “Senseo” coffee maker. Next to the kitchen you can sit down at the kitchen table while enjoying a snack and a drink.

On the ground floor there is a charming bedroom, with a double box spring bed (180 x 200cm). Opposite the bedroom is the large designer bathroom, with a double sink, a bath and a big walk-in shower. The separate toilet is located in the entrance hall.

A staircase in the living room leads to the mezzanine, directly under the thatched roof. Here you will find a cozy sleeping area with two single box spring beds, 90 x 200cm each.

In the morning your breakfast is served on a tray in the Guesthouse or optionally on the terrace outside. On the hall table you will find several leaflets and brochures with information about the area, bike- and hiking maps.

The Guesthouse has a private entrance and private garden. There are two terraces; next to the entrance you will find a spacious covered terrace with a large wooden table and chairs. In addition, a second terrace is located at the rear of the B&B overlooking the village canal where the boats sail by.

Your accommodation is available from 14:00h. It is possible to arrive earlier and to leave your luggage at the B&B. You can then first go explore the village or rent the electric boat.

Giethoorn, Overijssel, Alankomaat

B&B Plompeblad is located in the old village of Giethoorn, along the canal, the main waterway that connects the various parts of Giethoorn.
Giethoorn is a typical so called ribbon built village. Ribbon development means houses are built in a continuous row along a main road, or in this case, waterway. Within walking distance of the B&B you will find a variety of restaurants. The village also has a few shops and a museum.

The famous features of Giethoorn are determined by the canals and ditches, the typical high wooden bridges and thatched farmhouses. The thatched “camelback” farmhouse is often seen in Giethoorn. The roof of the farm seems to have a hump because the back dome of the house is higher than the front. The old village has no roads, and the only access is via water over the many beautiful canals or on foot or bike over its wooden arch bridges. Though most of the travel is done via water, the village still does have sidewalks that make it easy for you to take in its sights by foot. The locals use so called “punters” , to get around and cars have to remain outside the village.

Water area
Giethoorn was formed due to peat extraction. Peat extraction is the removal of a peat soil layer. The peat that was excavated here was generally used as fuel. The removal of peat caused ponds and lakes to form. In order to transport the peat, the workers dug canals and ditches. That is why many farmhouses in the old Giethoorn are located on peninsulas and little islands, which are connected by wooden bridges.

The picturesque surroundings, ditches and canals of Giethoorn, combined with the natural beauty of the area, has earned it the nickname “Dutch Venice”. There are many beautiful places to explore by boat, bicycle or on foot. You can sail through the village canals with an electric boat or get on a bike and explore the area via the specially designated cycling routes. There is 500 km of hiking trails in the area, including a scenic route to Steenwijk and the megaliths in Havelte. Enjoy this area and make it a wonderful discovery.

Summer and winter
Giethoorn is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world.
In summer Giethoorn receives many visitors and it is pleasantly busy. During the morning Giethoorn comes to life; on a beautiful day the main canal is vibrant with electric boats and the distinct places in Giethoorn are being photographed by countless nationalities. But around dinner time the hustle and bustle dissolves and everyone finds a place in one of the restaurants or terraces to indulge before returning home. Tranquility descends over the village again. As a guest of B&B Plompeblad this is the ultimate opportunity to soak in the soothing silence on your private terrace on the water.

While Giethoorn definitely has its appeal in the spring and summertime, it’s just as charming in the winter. The picturesque village is transformed into a cozy winter wonderland. Stroll along the illuminated authentic farms or take a heated canal cruise. And in a frost period, take to ice skating on the canals of Giethoorn and lakes of the Weerribben before warming up by the fireplace in a restaurant. Most bars and restaurants in Giethoorn are in fact open all winter weekends.
