This big, beautiful stone built house with pool in the village of Casoli in the Apennines, with a view of the Mediterranean can be rented.
The house, La Fontana, is situated about 30 kilometers north of Pisa and is near beaches, the Cinque Terre, Lucca and Pisa and only 90 kms from Florence, the Chianti wine area and the many more fabulous experiences Tuscany has to offer. The house is about 30 minutes from the sea, the Riviera della Versilia.
La Fontana” is a 250 square metre villa with pool in the village of Casoli, near Camaiore, in the province of Lucca, Tuscany. It is set on the side of a steep valley above a large olive grove, surrounded by firs, cypresses, chestnut trees. At night you fall asleep to the gentle sound of the river flowing over the rocks along the valley bottom. (Walk down to the old mule track to have lunch at either the Osteria Candalla or the Ristorante Emilio e Bona by the old mill at Candalla. Walk back up to work off the lunch!)
The house has two large sitting rooms, a dining room seating ten, three double bedrooms, three bathrooms (one en suite, a second large bathroom with basin, bath, bidet and wc, and a a smaller bathroom with basin, wc and shower) a bright and well-equipped kitchen, and a store room/laundry. The downstairs sitting room has a large sofa bed for two people.
There are two gardens, one with access from the kitchen, with a large, covered, marble floored terrace with barbecue and table and seating for ten people. At the end of the garden is a small (1m 40 deep) newly built spring water-fed swimming pool. The other garden is at the front of the house and has a terrace with table and chairs, and a boule court shaded by magnolia and olive trees.
On the first floor, with access from the first floor sitting room, is yet another terrace with tables and chairs overlooking the sea.
Casoli is a medieval village in the Lucca district in Tuscany, Italy. The village is situated about 400 metres above sea level in the beautiful Alpi Apuani (the Apuan Alps), 40 minutes north of Pisa, just inland from Viareggio. At the foot of the hills is the town of Camaiore.
Casoli (pop. about 600) is an old mining village. The local produce is mainly olive and chestnuts, and chestnut flour is still a major feature of the local specialities.
The village has a a really nice Osteria, a greengrocer’s, and a couple of general stores (fresh bread and milk in the morning) with bars which serve drinks and good coffee. Both the bars have pleasant terraces looking out across the valley and to the sea. More grocery shopping can be done in Camaiore or Lido di Camaiore. (The larger supermarkets offer extremely good prices on wines and spirits.)
For the rest of Tuscany go down to Camaiore and turn left for the old road to Lucca and the Garfagnana or right for the coast - then north for Forte dei Marmi (and the designer shops) and further on the beautiful and romantic Cinque Terre (take the boat and walk the Path of Love overlooking the sea from one village to the next). Or south to Pisa and Livorno or inland to Florence and Chianti, to Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Massa Marittima and everything that Tuscany has to look at, eat or drink.
Sheets, towels, electricity, gas and cleaning are all included in the price. There are also two covered garage places .
There are no real house rules but please remember that this old house is our home for most of the year, so please treat it with care. It would be a great help if you could ensure that the plants are watered. It can be a relaxing activity in the evening, especially with the hose pipe in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.
We hope you enjoy playing boules and kubb. You should find all the equipment necessary in the store room (there are steel boules and plastic ones for the children). Don't forget to put them away when you've finished with them.
Please don't get water on the parquet floors upstairs or the oak will swell and deform. And please try to leave the house as clean and tidy as possible. Marina and Elena (the cleaners) are wonderful, but they can't check that every item in the kitchen has been properly washed up!
It would also be a great help if, when you leave, you could take the sheets off the beds and leave them in the laundry room.
For the rest, just have a lovely, relaxing time!
