Our stay with Kazy and Rumi was a highlight of our holiday in Japan. They are brilliant hosts and excellent chefs. Meals were amazing! Sleeping on traditional futons was fun and very comfortable and we loved waking to the views of the garden and birdsong in the morning. The area is very scenic, the house is beautiful and we loved the whole stay! We arranged for some activities like mochi and soba making and it was fabulous, fun and delicious!! We arranged for the car transfer with them from the train station as the bus runs infrequently and it was great and comfortable option. Thank you very much for everything! We hope to come back soon!

We had a beautiful spacious room in Kazys house with a lovely view. Because of its remote location Kazy and his wife provided all the meals for us and with their explanation of what everything was, we learned a lot about Japanese food. And it tasted good as well, so we might have gained a few pounds... ;-) On the way up Kazy picked us up on Katata JR station (in the pouring rain). On the way down he brought us to Umenoki bus stop. Both Kazy and the busdriver were very careful drivers on the narrow mountainroads. The scenery is gorgeous, very little traffic, but no trails to walk, just the road. We saw some monkeys while walking around. And we enjoyed the soba making experience, which we promise not to repeat at home since it involves a really big knife. ;-)

Kazy made our family (my mother, my three children aged 4,6,8 and myself) feel very welcome. He and his wife were gracious and patient (especially with my very exuberant small boy). I am so happy that we had a chance to see rural Japan, make mochi, eat sushi that we made ourselves and explore the countryside. My children will remember all of the small frogs, his chickens, and pounding rice into dough and eating too many sweet red beans. I will remember the beautiful cedars, the hills and a glimpse at a different side of Japan.

We loved our stay at Kazy's place in the countryside. Kazy and his wife Rumi were so pleasant and accommodating, it was almost as if we were staying with family members. We learned how to make mochi, soba and sushi. They let us rent bikes to ride around in the village where we met some locals. Staying in a 250 year old house with Samurai history combined with Kazy and Rumi's hospitality was definitely our vacation's highlight.

Kazy and his wife are outstanding hosts. We stayed 4 nights at their house and we enjoyed every second of our stay. They made us feel at home immediately and gave us lots of interesting insights into the Japanese culture. Their house is quiet and lovely, surrounded by nature (beautiful mountains and rice fields). The food, especially the dinner, was just perfect. We highly recommend Kazy's place and would love to visit Kazy and his family again.

Kuta is a serene village and Kazy's accommodation is a true gem. Kazy and Rumi are welcoming and attentive hosts and visiting them would be great idea if you are visiting Kyoto. Although the village is remote, a easy train from Kyoto station to Katata and an arranged shuttle service with Kazy will make easy steps to reach a sublime experience that will open your eyes and fill you with awe to the beauty that is the Japanese countryside. The accommodation has the best view in the 250 year old Samurai house. A feeling of great Japanese authenticity and comfort as we relax in the room with textured tatami mats and clear shoji doors that reveal the scenic and tranquil view that is Kazy's garden. Also, for some fresh air and near the comfort of your room, relax in the much loved 'Engawa' a sort of traditional Japanese balcony. It was much needed time for me and my partner as we had just indulged in the culture and nightlife of the great Tokyo metropolis. Kazy offers many activities to help you enhance your stay, Biking and snow hiking will allow you to explore the scenes in and around Kuta during the summer or winter. Kazy is a skilled and passionate individual that loves his craft, making mochi with him and his family, foraging for wild ingredients for tempura, making sushi, watching him tend his land and even getting a peek at him making soba in the morning are memories that I will cherish forever. One of my favourite experiences during our stay is when we opted for the traditional Tea Ceremony experience by the river. A beautiful and cultural experience with a spirited back drop. Although it was a windy day and the portable burner was stressing to heat up the water, me and Kazy created a human shield to keep it alight and it took a few minutes for the water to come to heat, but, this created a intimate moment where us and Kazy got to know each other more and we realised even more just how passionate and knowledgable Kazy is. Kazy and Rumi also let us cook with them and we were able to eat together along with 2 other of their family friends. A warming and personal way to stay with Kazy and his wife, and a honour it was. Having a experience like this is wonderful and spirit building addition to exploring Japan. Hehe, before my review turns into a memoir on my unforgettable experience with Kazy and his family and friends. I should rap this up. I highly recommend staying with Kazy and Rumi. It will be great pleasure and experience for you and a great way to contribute to the Japanese country way of living, as Kazy is a passionate individual that is trying to revitalise the Japanese country living by educating foreign visitors and the Japanese people young and older to protect nature, its inhabitants and the natural landscape of Japan....
