Our midcentury Moonridge chalet is perched on a hillside with breathtaking mountain views! The home is ideal for two couples or a small family who are looking for a peaceful getaway at a stylish chalet with all the modern conveniences, and with an incredible VIEW!
PLEASE NOTE: Narrow uphill driveway with steep approach is not ideal for full size/oversize vehicles (or the faint of heart)! 4wd recommended in winter conditions. 9' total width between concrete wall and railing.
Enjoy extraordinary PANORAMIC views of the mountains and ski slopes at our renovated 1960s chalet! The space is 1000 sf with an open floor plan upstairs, large windows, and vaulted beam ceilings to bring nature indoors. Throw a log in the stone fireplace, stare out at the incredible views, and create lasting memories. At night, star gazing from the deck will take you away. Enjoy cooking in the modern kitchen or do some grilling on the deck while taking in the fresh mountain air!
Downstairs you'll find two small bedrooms, where they stay toasty and warm due to central heating. Both bedrooms have a queen memory foam mattress on a log frame bed with down pillows, down comforter with cotton duvet, and wool blanket. Bedroom 2 also has a twin roll-away bed stored in the closet which can unfold to sleep a child. There is one jack-and-jill bathroom downstairs that is shared between (and accessed from) the two bedrooms. The bathroom layout places the sink and shower in one compartment and the toilet and laundry in another compartment, with a pocket door separating the two areas of the bathroom to add some privacy.
Upstairs you'll find the common areas under our high ceilings. There is a large sectional sofa in the living room that will comfortably seat all of you when you binge-watch Netflix on a snow day. On Dec 1, we're bringing up a brand new custom-built sleeper sectional with queen memory foam mattress. We have plenty of extra pillows and blankets to keep you cozy. There is also a full bathroom with tub located next to the living room. The dining table overlooks the view and was custom made by us out of solid hickory. Two benches and two eames-style chairs will seat all 6 of you when dining in.
A flatscreen 4K Roku Smart TV in living room with Smart BluRay player will allow you to access our personal digital movie library as well as your accounts with Netflix, Hulu, Prime etc. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking supplies and utensils. Linens and towels are provided. Other features include charcoal BBQ grill/smoker, wood burning fireplace, washer/dryer, microwave, dishwasher, wireless high speed internet, tv in one bedroom with built-in DVD & VHS, and speakers for your ipod/computer in living room. You like games? We have a foosball table, playing cards, puzzles, and board games including Apples to Apples, Sequence, Monopoly, Scrabble, and Sorry.
Please note this house does not have air conditioning - you won't find AC in typical 1960s mountain cabins and it's rarely hot enough. For warmer summer days, you can open windows to take advantage of the natural cross breezes from our hilltop, augmented by our 3 portable fans.
Your well-behaved and house-trained pooch is welcome with a $20 one-time pet fee per dog. The front deck is a great perch for Fido to overlook the neighborhood and watch the birds and squirrels, but be advised the back yard is not fenced and the neighborhood is visited by coyotes. Don't leave your pet unattended.
The steep uphill driveway can park 2 cars in tandem, provided they can all fit. At 108" wide between wall and railing, it is difficult for full size trucks and SUVs to unload. We recommend vehicles up to 74" in width. 4wd is ideal and low clearance vehicles are discouraged due to steep approach from street. Ask if you're unsure whether your car will be suitable. 1 vehicle can park at the bottom of the driveway before the railing starts, but it's a steep walk up with all your luggage.
Guests will have full access to the entire home and its contents.

This rental property is managed by-owner, not by a rental agency listing hundreds of cabins. We are very detail-oriented and dedicated to ensuring your enjoyment of our home. You will have 24/7 access to us remotely via email or phone/text during your stay. We will make every attempt to address issues and concerns that may arise and can arrange for onsite services as necessary. Our home is cleaned after each guest by the same family who know our home well and are insured, trusted, and consistently provide excellent service. Our home is not serviced by a cleaning company who sends someone different each time with little awareness of things that may be broken, missing, or out of place. We believe these things set us apart from other rental properties in Big Bear.

Big Bear is a mountain environment. High altitude and arid climate may affect people differently if not acclimated. Staying hydrated is highly recommended. Weather conditions can change rapidly, especially in winter. We cannot honor last-minute cancellations due to weather and road conditions. Always be prepared during winter for possible chain requirements and icy road conditions. In winter, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND you arrive before dark so you can get settled and enjoy a worry-free evening. Guests who arrive late during the winter may encounter long delays and/or icy roads, which can be impassable for some vehicles. 4wd recommended in snow conditions.

Hello travelers! We are a couple living in Los Angeles, but originally from Miami (Sara) and Chicago (Eric). Sara works as a director at an architecture firm, and Eric is a freelance art director primarily working with ad agencies. To escape the daily grind, we enjoy peaceful getaways and backcountry adventures with our staffy dog. If we aren't camping in the solitude of the wilderness, then we enjoy staying at private home rentals during our travels to get a more personal experience that a hotel can't offer. We respect the properties we rent as we hope others will respect our own.
Our passion for art/design/travel/nature is reflected in our mountain chalet in Big Bear Lake, CA, which we happily offer for your next getaway. We bought our chalet in late 2009, when we wanted to make our first home purchase but were nervous to take on a mortgage during a recession. So we took a risk and bought a second home first, one that we could enjoy as a getaway and also rent! The chalet was a foreclosure that needed some love. So we fixed it up and have been sharing it with wonderful folks since early 2010. Along the way, we discovered a new passion for mountain living and for hosting. We visit our chalet monthly and are constantly making improvements to the property. It's become a labor of love! We are proud to have earned AirBnB Superhost status for 11 quarters, basically since its inception!
Establishing the Treehaus Chalet and adopting our rescue dog are the best decisions we've ever made!
