The Pine Tops Apartment at Villa les Roches, Langogne is an exceptional place to stay while visiting this largely undiscovered but supremely beautiful “mid mountain" part of France. Situated outside the town, down a quiet lane, this 96 sq m. apartment is on the top floor of a large, 3-story, Art Déco villa. The apartment is stylishly decorated and full of sunshine with panoramic views over the river gorge below and the pine clad mountains. With two double en-suite bedrooms, the accommodation is suitable for 2 couples or a family of 4. There is 20sq.m. lounge with UK and French TV and Wi-Fi and a fully equipped kitchen. You access the apartment through your own, private entrance door in the lower conservatory and then via the terrazzo spiral stairs to your private, upper conservatory, which adjoins the apartment. You can relax in your lounge, dine in your conservatory or sunbathe on a recliner on a very spacious terrace, (192 sq.m), with barbecue. Langogne town centre is about 1 ½ kms away with supermarkets, restaurants, tourist information and a swimming pool. The grounds extend through rocky woodland to the river below and if you'd like to go fishing down there - bring your waders and wellies!! (Fishing licence obtainable in Langogne).
This is an unspoilt corner of France, without the crowds. Here, you can enjoy walking through wide open countryside, with spectacular “mid mountain" vistas, criss-crossed by rivers, gorges and lakes. We have a file of walks, in English, for your use as well as many French walking guide books. In spring, the mountains here are aflame with golden broom and meadows are carpeted with narcissi. In summer, there are wild blueberries and raspberries and, in autumn, mushrooms, blackberries and chestnuts. Almost every type of outdoor sport is available, from mountain biking, to sailing, to canyoning. For a touch of the “real France", the locals will be pleased to welcome you at one of their summer festivals. There are medieval festivals, folk festivals, 14th July fireworks and various village celebrations.
The Pine Tops apartment affords guests complete privacy, while also offering the advantage of having the owner, Christine, on site. She will welcome you personally and will be on hand throughout your stay, to help in any way, should you require it. The lowest floor of this very large, 3-storey house accommodates six B&B guests.
The Villa is situated just outside the town of Langogne – near enough to walk into town but far enough to be in the midst of glorious, peaceful nature. The house is built on the side of a river gorge and stairs are, therefore, inevitable. Regrettably, the apartment is unsuitable for those with mobility problems.
A former dress designer and part-time painter, I left my native England in 2004 and bought Villa les Roches - this magnificent house in Southern France. While, at first, much time was spent on the restoration of the Villa, I now particularly enjoy walking in this fabulous area. There are waymarked walks everywhere! Most of the walking guide books are in French, so I make a point of translating the instructions for every walk I do into English, so that my non-French speaking guests can also enjoy them. I hope, soon, to find more time to paint too, as this area is every landscape artist's dream!
