History of Okoř and Dolsky Mlyn
The origin of the mill dates back to the 13th century when it was built to provide services for the original castle of Okoř and the surrounding villages. Since that period, it was rebuilt several times until it obtained the form we know it in today.
The watermill is supplied by water from the nearby lake on which swans have found refuge for many centuries. The story goes that after the destruction of the castle, a white lady is wandering along the battlements, and that her soothing spell and blessings rest on the historic village, its inhabitants and visitors.
The watermill stayed operational long after the destruction of the castle of which the ruin is the main attraction of Okoř. It stayed operational till at the end of the second World War, but was confiscated and closed by the after war communist government of Czechoslovakia and was also left to destruction.
When the government returned to the former owners after the revolution of 1989, only the strong wall remained intact until we renovated the mill.
The apartments and office space are situated in the old mill complex. Our future projects include to re-install the watermill to produce our own electricity and other ecological projects.
