Aion palata pian takaisin! Rakasti sitä.

    Catherine2019-02-10T00:00:00Z

  • Hilary on täydellinen isäntä.

    Anastasia2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Ihana paikka yöpyä tutustumalla brekoneihin. Suuri kävelee ulko-ovesta, olisi ehdottomasti suositeltavaa.

Bwlch, nesting between the Wye and Usk valleys, is a popular centre for exploring the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. The Hide is at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with spectacular walks from the front door. The woodland to the rear contains a whole range of birdlife-red kite, buzzard, woodpecker and all kinds of garden birds. Patio doors open onto a small garden with space to sit and eat. The Hide is equipped to a high spec and is a warm and comfortable retreat all year round.
The village of Bwlch and its surrounding hills and valleys was inspirational to JR Tolkien's description of Middle Earth where the Hobbits dwelt. There is plenty of good food and drink around at local pubs and the Gate shop with post office is open each day. We are in a Dark Sky designated area within the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The School Annex is bike and walker friendly with the Taff Trail right on its doorstep. Talybont-on-Usk is a great hub for exploring the Brecon Beacons: walking, cycling, stunning scenery & incredible star gazing right on your doorstep. A detached self-catering holiday cottage, next to the owners home, it's ideal for long weekends, short breaks or longer stays. Whether you aim for the mountains or just want to relax & enjoy the views, you may find 2 nights isn't quite long enough - just saying!
The School Annex is on the edge of the small village of Talybont on Usk, a village in the Brecon Beacons with canal and rivers offering an excellent base for exploring with walking and cycling direct from the garden and incredible star gazing at night. You are only a few minutes walk from the village shop, cafe and post office and two great pubs serving a good range of local food. The School Annex comfortably sleeps four adults or a family of 5 . If a family of 2 adults with children, please note that we don't charge the extra per person per night rate for over 4 people. This is only for extra adults. Bedroom One: the Mezzanine is up some very steep steps so not suitable for children or if you need to get up lots for the loo in the night! You will find one superking bed up here which can be split in to two singles. An occasional single can also be put in this large space if required. There is a large Velux above the bed which means you can relax and star gaze and then close the black out blind with a remote whilst lying in bed. Please view our pictures. Bedroom Two: is downstairs with a double bed and a single bunk bed above it. There is a separate toilet next to this bedroom space. See pictures. Study: we are able to put an occasional single bed in this space if downstairs sleeping is required for more than two adults or children. Please ask if this is an option you want to investigate but note that it wouldn't give complete privacy. Bathroom: this is a good sized bathroom with shower (no bath), toilet and sink. For families with babies we do have a baby bath which fits perfectly inside the shower. Kitchen/Diner: Please note that the large kitchen/diner is separate from the main liveing accommodation but only by a few steps across the courtyard. It is large enough to relax in and has a dart board at the back. Whilst quirky, on the plus side it does eliminate cooking odours from invading the living and sleeping space. It also means that groups can socialise late or get up at different times without disturbing the others! Tea and coffee making facilities are in the living space for a cuppa when you want it. Please view our pictures which include a 3D layout of the accommodation so you can visualise how it is laid out. Cycle Friendly: we are cycle friendly accommodation with a space to lock up bikes and wash them down at the end of a days cycling. Talybont is a Brecon Beacons Mountain Bike hub too so some great rides right from the doorstep! We are also a short car drive to Bike Park Wales. When you come back muddy, there is a washing machine and lots of drying space. Coming in an electric car? We have a type 1 charge station next to your parking space which is fine for an overnight charge. If you need a fast charge then the village hall has a fast charge station and tokens are £5 from the village shop. Easy! Whether you are looking for an activity break, want to visit some of the many places of interest in and around the Brecon Beacons, or just want to take time out and relax, this self catering holiday property offers a high standard of accommodation in a fantastic location. Some useful things to know for your packing! We provide in the kitchen: washing up liquid, T-towels, dish cloths, salt, pepper, cooking oil, cling film, silver foil, kitchen roll, bin bags and a little tea, coffee and sugar to get you going. We don't provide washing powder for the washing machine but do have eco wash balls which work well if you want to give them a go! Here you will also find OS maps of the area and lots of local information. For the bathroom we provide: good quality hair and body shower gel, conditioner, hand soap, towels. In the main accommodation you will also find a mini fridge which will have some milk in it for your complementary teas and coffee. If you forget your slippers there is a box of assorted slippers to choose from and in the winter you will find a hot water bottle on your bed!
The School Annex is in a stunning location in the small rural village of Talybont on Usk but with great local places to eat and drink, all within walking distance. There is easy access out in to the Brecon Beacons and the Taff Trail for walking and cycling. The towns of Brecon, Crickhowell and Abergavenny are within easy reach by car.

It is set in the Brecon Beacons overlooking the Usk Valley. This area is known as Tolkeins Wales because it is thought to have inspired JR Tolkein to write the setting for the Hobbit. It’s thought (but not proved) Tolkien stayed in the appealing village of Talybont-on-Usk in the 1940s, while working on parts of The Lord of The Rings. Writing at a time when industrialisation was transforming the British countryside, his nostalgic depiction of The Shire was inspired by rural Wales. It’s easy to see similarities between the landscapes in his books and the hills and meadows of the Black Mountains. He named the Hobbit settlement of Crickhollow after nearby Crickhowell. In The Lord of the Rings, Buckland was a colony of Hobbits between the Old Forest and the Brandywine River, the childhood home of Frodo Baggins. Tolkien is thought to have based this part of Middle-earth on the Buckland Estate, whose ancient, protected woodlands stand beside the River Usk. Buckland Hall, Buckland Hill can be seen from the aprtment to your right and is a beautiful but easy walk

Sijainti on fantastinen, aivan ihastuttavassa pienessä kylässä, jossa on pari hyvää pubia kivenheiton päässä. Erittäin suositeltavaa!

  • Ihastuttava lämmin ja viihtyisä mökki erinomaisella paikalla Brecon Beaconien tutustumiseen. Erinomaiset tilat talossa ja mukavat vuoteet. Tulee varmasti vierailemaan uudelleen!

    Ned2018-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Kaunis kodikas mökki. Olohuoneessa oleva polttimen poltin on helppo pitää lämpimänä. Kylpyhuoneen lattialämmitys on isäntä!

This delightful Victorian cottage is situated in the heart of the National Park, nestled amongst the trees at the foot of Buckland Hill. It overlooks the secluded Buckland parklands that gently roll down to the river Usk. This landscape inspired J.R.R. Tolkien on his visit to the area in the 1940's. He wrote in The Lord of the Rings of 'Buckland', the childhood home of Frodo Baggins, who later returned to Buckland and bought a house in Crickhollow. In the book, Buckland is described as a slither of land between an ancient forest and a river, an apt description of the location of Buckland Cottage. The cottage has a beautiful veranda where you can sit and watch the sunset over the mountains whilst enjoying a drink or alfresco dining. It was once part of the Buckland Hall Estate and the cottage has been very beautifully renovated with wooden floors, lovely carpets, luxurious beds and good quality fabrics and furnishings. From the cottage there are walks through the forestry tracks up to Buckland Hill and across to Bwlch Common and Llangorse Mountain. Accommodation: Sleeps 6/8 in 4 bedrooms- There is a spacious kitchen-diner with a walk-in larder and a utility room with a large fridge-freezer, microwave, washing machine, and a tumble dryer. The well equipped kitchen has a classic style with a Rangemaster double electric cooker and five ring hob, dishwasher and ample work and storage space. The dining area seats 8 around the table and also has a comfy seating area with 2 sofas. Like most of the rooms in the house, this room has views across the parkland with its specimen trees. The sitting room has a large 5 seater corner sofa and footstool as well as 2 other chairs, wood burning stove, TV with Freeview and DVD player with a few DVDs and games for rainy days. The spacious entrance hallway has real character, with its long table and a set of prints depicting local scenes in different seasons. Downstairs Bedroom 1: Bedroom with twin beds (can zip and link to become a double bed). The Downstairs bathroom is next to bedroom 1 with a bath with a shower over, hand basin and toilet. Up a flight of carpeted stairs past a shelf of reading material to three more bedrooms, all with beautiful views across parkland: Bedroom 2: The master bedroom with a super king-size bed, 2 seater sofa and adjacent room off containing toilet and hand basin (but also large enough to take a travel cot). Bedroom 3: Bunk beds (only suitable for children). Bedroom 4: With super king-size bed, chaise longue and a quirky very low doorway through to a nursery room with two cots and Velux window giving views to the dense woodland of Buckland Hill Family Bathroom with hand basin, toilet and bath with traditional fittings and handheld shower hose due to the low ceiling in this room. Outside: to the front of the cottage is the veranda with bench and patiio table and chairs under and on the terrace a large slate topped table with chairs for outside dining. To the side an informal woodland garden with a new tree swing, a tree house that has recently been repaired and a picnic bench. Buckland Cottage has inspired some terrific comments from guests: 'Great place and superb views' 'Your wonderfully comfortable cottage has made my retreat at Buckland Hall even more special. We'll be back in May!' 'Excellent cottage, kids loved the garden. Excellent location.' 'Lovely cottage with amazing views, comfy beds, excellent base for walking holidays' 'Clean, warm, spacious, very well equipped cottage' 'Picture and details don't do this house justice! Orchard Cottage is a charming, sunny, Gardeners cottage in the grounds of a country house with glorious views across The Usk Valley. This is an idyllic retreat for two - warm and luxurious and with ample space. When I entered the cottage I took a deep sigh and thought "this is lovely" - immediately warm and welcoming with a bottle of wine and welsh cheeses on the table. Accommodation Sleeps 2 - 1 King Size Bed Newly equipped, the kitchen has an electric cooker and hob, a microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and a circular table - the owner is very fond of "Emma Bridgewater" china and this gives the whole cottage a real "country" feel. Up a couple of steps to the beautifully furnished, attractive and very sun filled sitting room, with a modern and efficient wood burning stove in the corner, leather sofa and chairs and a TV with Freeview. Upstairs to the bedroom The first impression again is of space - with a fine King sized bed with a handmade patchwork quilt - views across the Usk Valley to the Talybont Valley. A granary door leads down to the little terrace and garden. The en-suite bathroom has plenty of space with a bath with a shower over, hand basin, toilet & a big heated towel rail. There is a washing machine and a tumble dryer in a separate laundry room. The Orchard Cottage sits behind the fabulous old Talybryn House and barns -now with fresh life breathed into it - so is not completely secluded but certainly with nothing to disturb visitors. The owners are passionate about conservation and have planted two separate orchards with various fruit trees, cherries, plums apples and pears - when we visited they were picking apples to go for pressing to make their own apple juice. Visitors are welcome to walk around the grounds - through a meadow with chickens, and a natural pond with ducks. A foot path leads up through the fields to Allt yr Esgair and even across to the Farm Shop at the Welsh Venison Centre, where you can buy fresh produce and enjoy a cup of coffee. On a quiet evening visitors might hear the calling of the stags. The cottage is at the top of a long drive between Talybont on Usk and Bwlch so within easy reach of two local shops and several village pubs. Highly recommended is The New Inn in Bwlch, a very family friendly pub - but you need to book - or there are three local pubs in Talybont on Usk. In Bwlch there is also The Little Diner - American style and a warm welcome is always offered. A very convenient place to stay if attending any events at either Buckland Hall or Peterstone Court. Brecon 8 miles, Bwlch less than a mile, Talybont on Usk 2 miles, Llangynidr 2 1/2 miles, Crickhowell 7 miles, Abergavenny 13 miles, The closest railway station is Abergavenny. Useful Information: * All linen and towels supplied * Gas central heating * Plenty of wood for the wood burning stove * The owner does not feel this is a suitable place for children of walking age but babes in arms are fine - Visitors to bring their own travel cot. * Wifi * Hairdryer * Ample parking * Drying room * BBQ * Safe lockable storage for mountain bikes If you would like to speak to someone who has visited this property please ask for: Elizabeth, Carolyn, Ann or Ceri Amenities: Hair Dryer, Bed Linen & Towels, Dishwasher, DVD, toilet, TV, microwave, internet connection, bathtub, king size bed, Wood burning fireplace, BBQ grill, Dryer, No Pets Allowed, Heating, Wireless Internet, Parking; Bathroom, Bedroom, Kitchen

The Counting House - this much loved and quaint little eighteenth century Toll House is perched on the bank of The Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal on the edge of the popular village of Talybont on Usk. NOT SUITABLE FOR SMALL CHILDREN DUE TO THE TERRACE WITH A STEEP WALL AND BANK DOWN TO THE CANAL BELOW Slate and limestone used to be transported along the historic Brynoyre Tram Road from the mountain top to the canal - the Counting House was where all the transactions were carried out. Just across the lane are the lime kilns where the limestone was processed and from where it was transported away along the canal. The cottage has superb views of the boats on the canal and right across the Usk Valley to the Black Mountains beyond. Enjoy a 3 minute evening stroll to the gastro-pub The Travellers Rest or an easy walk along the canal towpath to The White Hart or to The Star Inn with it's wide choice of real ales. The well stock village shop is further down the towpath with a popular cafe and post office. Cottage Accommodation As it is built into the side of the hill it is more convenient to have the bedrooms on the lower floor and the living area on the "road level" ground floor. Sleeps 3- 2 bedrooms The kitchen has an electric cooker, fridge with a small freezer, microwave and a dishwasher and an electric clothes dryer. A door that leads out onto a raised wooden sun terrace - this is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning taking in the lovely views across The Usk Valley. The sitting room/dining room is comfortably furnished with sofa and chairs TV with Freeview & a DVD and a wood burning stove. There are some lovely features in this Grade II listed cottage with arched windows, the original oak beams and very thick stone walls. The views are magnificent. The modern bathroom has corner shower, toilet and hand basin. The bedrooms are DOWN some exceptionally STEEP NARROW STEPS - these are "listed" so cannot be changed and for anyone with mobility problems would, I think, be very awkward - going down backwards is recommended!! Downstairs: Bedroom 1: A bedroom with a single bed - there are french doors from this room leading out to the terrace. Bedroom 2: The double bedroom is reached through the single bedroom, these two rooms are linked by a pine arched door. There is a footpath to the private area of canal bank below the Counting House and there is a small boat house - but again the footpath is steep and can be slippery in wet weather and visitors use it at their own risk. Useful Information Bedlinen provided. Towels provided Electricity and electric heaters inclusive. Woodburning stove with logs supplied. TV & DVD with Freeview Wifi Radio Terrace reached through the bedroom patio doors or down exterior steps. Off road parking outside the cottage for just one car. 2 pets welcome but there is no garden, just a gravelled terrace. Small welcome pack on arrival Not suitable for children due to the exceptionally steep drop down to the canal. Brecon 6 miles.
