Welcome to the all new Adorable Classic Saugatuck Comfy Cottage... without the crusty musty! We are very excited to add to our portfolio this adorable cottage, in the perfect location if you’re visiting Saugatuck/Douglas. Come see why Saugatuck has been named one of Americas best small towns year after year and is home to some of the finest beaches, outdoor recreation, galleries, shopping, breweries, restaurants and more!
If you’ve stayed with Eric and Rob before, you know we only offer amazing well cared-for homes, in the best locations, extremely well appointed, and with great communication from your hosts. We love our properties, we love our guests, and we want you to have an amazing stay with us. This hidden gem is very different than the others in our portfolio- it's blend of a classic Saugatuck cottage and a modern comfortable getaway. It has a touch of retro/classic with some of its hard finishes, but don't worry, you won't have to endure scratchy sheets, worn out furniture or that stale crusty musty air with a smell that makes you feel dirty. This adorable 2-bedroom cottage is well appointed, and well stocked with a HUGE kitchen, has a great front yard, nice sized screened in front porch, of course amazing linens and ice cold air condition. It's also in a great location, well inside the city limits of Saugatuck - so a great place to call "home base" for your visit.
Our most common question is about the home’s proximity to the beach and downtown. If you’re coming here for the beach, you probably want to check out award winning Oval Beach. If Oval is your destination, it really doesn’t matter where you stay in town, as long as you pick a property between the two main exits for Saugatuck/Douglas (exits 36 & 41). With the town being so small, the driving time to Oval Beach will be roughly the same for every vacation rental in town, give or take a few minutes. I say this because there is a long stretch of winding/wooded country drive approaching Oval Beach that is really not designed for pedestrians, and with this area being so small, no property really has a big “beach” advantage in the context of Oval Beach since you really need to arrive there on some wheels. It’s a gorgeous beach, but plan to drive or take the “Interurban Oval Beach Shuttle” from town if you are going. Heading to downtown? For most, in good weather, the walk to downtown Saugatuck is the best choice since you can avoid the hassle of parking, get in a little exercise on the .7 mile walk to the downtown post office. If you still have energy left after covering downtown Saugatuck, you can hop on the free Interurban Shuttle to check out downtown Douglas (operates peak days in season).
As for exact distances…
- Douglas Beach is 3.2 miles
- Oval Beach is 4.2 miles (Oval Beach is 3.2 driving miles from downtown)
- Downtown Saugatuck is .7 miles (mapped to post office)
- Downtown Douglas is 2.1 miles (mapped to Main & Center)
- Downtown Holland is 11.3 miles (mapped to Centennial Park)
- Dunes State Park is 3.9 miles
- Grand Rapids Airport (GRR) is 44 miles
- Exit 41 off of Highway 196 is 1.7 miles (primary highway access)
Now that we know the home is in an amazing location, let’s talk about the space...
This home has a great open floor plan – the huge kitchen, dining area and living room all share one large open space, with large windows opening up to the front porch.
After a long day, you’ll enjoy a restful nights sleep and wake up refreshed on one of our luxurious beds - you won't find white bleached starched scratchy sheets here. All beds feature feather down comforters, feather pillows and luxury linens - once you get in, you might not want to get back out!. If you’re traveling with anyone that has trouble with stairs, this single floor home has just one step up to the front porch, and one more into the home! Traveling with an infant? You should have plenty of room to set up a pack-n-play either in the master bedroom/closet area, or in the main common area. There is even room on the front porch. Here is an overview of the sleeping spaces and bathroom:
Ground Floor (sleeps 6 and has 1 bath)
- Bedroom 1 - King Bed with large walk-in closet that connects to the bath
- Bedroom 2 - Queen Bed
- Living Room – Queen Sleeper Sofa
- Bathroom – Tub/Shower Combo with handheld sprayer, Toilet & Sink
In the bathrooms, you will find plenty of amenities including hand soap pumps, shower pumps dispensing shampoo, conditioner & body wash, and a full amenity tray. We stock plenty of plush bath towels, and you’ll even find bathrobes and beach towels in bedroom closets for use during your stay.
We cook… a lot! So we couldn’t imagine offering you a poorly stocked kitchen…. This large kitchen has tons of cabinets and counter space… and lucky for you, we’ve already got the cabinets stocked with all the utensils and small appliances you’ll need to make and serve a full meal. Our most common question regarding the kitchen is about the coffee maker... the coffee maker uses coffee grounds and has a wire mesh reusable filter. If you’re hoping to have everyone sit down at a table for a meal, the large dining room table seats 6, and the wrap around counter offers plenty of room for serving space. As for appliances- the kitchen has a very cool built-in classic brown electric oven and glass cooktop, a 2/3 split double basin sink with a garbage disposal, countertop microwave, and of course a 36” French Door refrigerator with filtered ice and water on the door (arriving in June). The utility room offers a stacked electric washer & dryer.
The cottage features a screened-in front porch with comfortable seating and of course the property has a Gas Grill with a tank of propane to get you started.
We all love our pets.... and you won't have to worry about them back home alone when staying in this cottage. We believe in equality for everyone. Our home is a place where all should feel safe and be able to enjoy the beauty of Michigan. We define service animals as those "working" and performing a task. All others will be defined as pets for the purpose of understanding our pet policies and fees.

Unsure if you’re looking at the right properties for your visit to Saugatuck/Douglas? Let us help…. so, if you’re looking to visit Saugatuck/Douglas, zoom in on google maps near highway 196, exit 36 (Douglas exit just south of Saugatuck Brewing Company) If you look along the Michigan coastline, you’ll see a street called Lakeshore Drive. Notice as you follow it south, it dead ends… cuts off… for us, that’s the “end of the world”. Ideally you want to be north of this cutoff when you make your vacation rental selection if you’re visiting Saugatuck/Douglas. No matter what city your map program thinks you’re in, if you’re north of this break in Lakeshore Drive, you’re in Saugatuck or Douglas. This is right near the border of Fennville, and with many of these being private drives, the map programs don’t have all of these addresses correct. On the North side, you can follow 196 on the map up to the next exit (exit 41 – Saugatuck exit near Burger King), and feel comfortable selecting properties anywhere along the way. On the east side, I’d probably try to stay West of 63rd St, and definitely west of 58th St. This is a really small area, so if you're looking for a more country/nature experience, staying at the far edges of this area I described will get a more secluded and relaxing experience in your vacation rental, while still being just a short drive to downtown/restaurants/beaches/etc.. If you enjoy being on-foot, walking to shopping/dinner/etc., staying near downtown Saugatuck or downtown Douglas might be a better fit for you. This cottage is inside city limits, but far enough out you won't have the nightmares of having to find street parking, hassles of dodging pedestrians, or the frustration of being caught in the middle of a crowded downtown event.
