Safety & Transport

~~~~ SAFETY ~~~~ New Orleans is a great city but as in many large urban areas you should always be aware of potential danger. Most of the time, everything is perfectly safe. Just be mindful about walking around (in any part of the city, including upscale areas) and coming and going from cars and houses. Keep doors (car, apartment) locked and be aware of your surroundings. If ever you encounter a mugger or car-jacker on the street, don’t be a hero! Most crime is for petty financial gain.
Crescent City Park
This beautiful 1.4 mile long park skirts the Mississippi River and is virtually invisible from the street as it’s located behind the levee wall. There are three points of access. The closest is at the foot of Mazant Street, just three blocks away. The most iconic entrance is the “rusty rainbow” curved iron staircase atthe foot of Piety Street; you definitely don’t want to miss walking out on the Piety Wharf near the foot of this bridge. There is a staircase and elevator at the far end, at Mandeville St, which brings you out very near the French Market in the French Quarter.
