The Medieval Castle of Kolossi in Limassol, also known as Koulas, is one of the most important fortresses from the Frankish period in Cyprus that are preserved to this day.
The existing fortress was built in 1454 by the Commander of the Ioannina Battalion, Louis de Magnac, on top of the ruins of an older fortress from 1210. Magnac's coat-of-arms is visible on the eastern wall of the castle. The typical features of a fortress from that time include the ramparts and gun-loops above the entrance, from where hot oil could be thrown at enemies during incoming attacks.
Kolossi was the seat of a strong military force, the Ioannina Battalion, known as Commanderie, who controlled and exploited the agricultural produce of the wider area, which included some 60 villages

Both Public Garden and the Zoo within the park have been the city landmarks for many decades. They are the ideal family spot, right in the heart of the city. It’s the suitable place for walking, playing and enjoying an afternoon coffee.
The Zoo within the Park was created in 1909 and used to host many kinds of birds. The zoo as we know it today occurred by a random event back in 1954 when a Limassolian Ms. Grigoraskou, donated her little monkey pet. Other donators followed her example later. John Wilkes, an American, donated an elephant named Jully (older Limassolians still remember her).
Starting from 1956, the Zoo was a spectacle of large animals (lions, bears, zebras) many of which were donated. After its reconstruction in 2014, the Zoo has been transformed into a beautiful educational ride for Limassolians and other visitors. It’s been beautifully made by using natural look deco (wood, clay and glass) and enriched with smaller animals, very interesting to visit. The picturesque café adds on the total look as well as the beautiful wooden playground. And all of these while overlooking at the sea.
The Public Garden occasionally hosts various events and festivals (mainly charity events) and of course the most important of its events, the 10 day Annual Wine Festival.
The Public Garden also houses the Garden Theatre (capacity of 1800 people) which hosts various performances and concerts, usually during the summer period.

It has become a city kingdom at around 12th-11th BC after the arrival and settlement of Greeks (Achaeans) colonists in Cyprus. According to tradition this happened after the end of the Trojan War. Kourion was one of the wealthiest kingdoms of Cyprus.
The devastating series of earthquakes that affected Kourion in the second half of the 4th century AD were the beginning of the city’s decline. The beginning of the Christian period was the end of the worship of Apollon Ylates and that automatically meant am important reduction of visitors in the city of Curium. That period economically affected the city.
The most important monuments of the ancient city of Kourion, which survive until today, are the Amphitheatre, the Market (Roman agora), the Roman baths, houses of Achilles, of the Gladiators and of Eustolios with the great floor mosaics, the Episcopal Christian Basilica, Sanctuary of Apollo, the Stadium, and the Small Basilica outside the walls.
The city of Kourion, is of unique beauty. On the hill where the main monuments of the ancient city are located, one can see a great view of the Mediterranean, maybe the most magical view.
