Protected from pirates and enemy natives, Dogtown was used as common land for wood & pasturing cattle/sheep. In the mid-1700s, a 100 families inhabited Dogtown after the American Revolution.
Some of its last occupants were suspected of practicing witchcraft. (Thomazine "Tammy" Younger was described as "Queen of the Witches" by Thomas Dresser) Dogtown became abandoned. Today walking through Dogtown can evoke memories of old. But beware of getting lost among its wayward trails.

If it's during the summer, you won't be able to park in the lot without a sticker. But you can take the train north 1 station and walk (15 min). On weekends before 4pm they charge walk-on fee. I never pay cuz I go after 4pm.
