Its an hour of driving through lovely countryside from ours. Park, walk the nature trail through bamboo forest to the end of the trail and swim in the waterfall pools. Rare to find many people there. Off the beaten track.

Its not the town of Si Siwat that holds much interest. It's the journey to get there. Set off before dawn and maybe see elephants on the road. Watch the sun rise over the jungle. You can either take the long way round (extra 25km) of twisty roads or take the ferry across - great views.

Nice drive up to the top of the dam. Some coffee shops and tourist crap up there but amazing to see the scale of the water.

Alpine climate. Absolutely stunning scenery. Old mining town, abandoned nowadays. Decent curry there. Day trip. Not for small kids as will be bored on the ride. Adults will ooo and ahhh. It's on the Burmese border.

Lovely drive - go past Hellfire Pass and not through the jungle track (poorly signposted). Lots of temples, reclining Buddhas and coffee shops. I like P Guesthouse. Decent food, clean rooms and fast internet. Three pagoda pass etc all around there. About 5 hour drive from ours (faster on a motorbike!)

Lovely drive - go past Hellfire Pass and not through the jungle track (poorly signposted). Lots of temples, reclining Buddhas and coffee shops. I like P Guesthouse. Decent food, clean rooms and fast internet. Three pagoda pass etc all around there. About 5 hour drive from ours (faster on a motorbike!)
The restaurant is not very good - don't eat there. But this a good marker for google maps to see the train from BKK that comes along the viaduct. Normally around 1140-1210 hours depending on whether its on time. Walk through the market and you will see the train line. Follow train line to the river. A very short walk. Take hat and water!

Entertainment & Activities
Water park. Not fancy. nothing automated. You climb up, you slide down the slides. Life jackets provided. Good fun. There is a Quad bike rental place on the way there as well. Good coffee shop.

Between the town of Kanchanaburi and our house on Road 3199 is a ceramics factory. Near The Balloon roadhouse. All our plates come from there - it is good value and permanently on sale are round 50-60% off.

There is a 7-11 north (and such of us). There is a market past the 7-11 when you turn left towards the dam. But for an extended stay you need to go into Kanchanaburi town to Robinson, Big C etc to stock up. The places alongside the river such as the smiling frog do a mean burger.
