It is a Russian Orthodox cathedral located at Panfilov Park in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Completed in 1907, the cathedral is made out of wood but without nails. Its height is 56 meters tall, and is claimed to be the second tallest wooden building in the world.

It is dedicated to and named after the Panfilov heroes which were the 28 soldiers of an Almaty infantry unit who died while fighting against Germans outside of Moscow during the Great Patriotic War.

The theater is located in the downtown, easily accessible by public transportation either underground or bus. Tickets are always available, even on the day of the performance. I would recommend to see a performance of the Kazakh opera Kyz-Zhibek, where you can see the traditional Kazakh costumes and songs.
