Beach

Mojacar is the nearest beach to us. Mojacar is in two sections, the old town, about 1 km from the coastline, and the playa. In the old town you will find winding streets with gift shops and bars. There is a great viewing platform, where you can see the coast line for miles. And the playa, which stretches along the coastline for about 5 km, with many beaches, bars and restaurants. There are loads of restaurants to choose from, of all kinds of different types of cuisine in Mojacar….for paella we love Aku Aku, but be warned it will be very busy at lunchtimes, especially on Sundays so best to book a table and pre-order your paella as these take a while as freshly cooked to order. A little further down the coast from Mojacar, you will find some really lovely secluded beaches which are a little harder to get to so much quieter. We love it at Playa del Sombrerico, The google map link is below. You do have to drive for a while on a rough track, if this worries you then might be better to avoid. There is a beach bar during summer months, with toilets and showers but in winter months you will need to make sure you take any food or drink with you.

Down from Mojacar get to the Cabo de Gato, a natural park along the coast up from Almeria. You can find a visitor centre with information about the park's ecosystem, nature & history of human settlement There are many, many beautiful places to explore and beaches to visit within the Cabo de Gato. Agua Armarga is a beautiful little village on the edge of the Cabo De Gato with a great beach and some lovely places for lunch, including: Restaurante Los Tarahis

Garrucha, a traditional fishing port, where you can find loads of great fish restaurants. The beach is nice and sandy with a long promenade from one end to the other, along which they are some nice little play areas from children. Our favourite restaurant in Garrucha is Rincon del Puerto, they have great fish tapas but you need to sit inside, in the bar area and get there early as it gets super busy.

Further up the coast you will find San Juan de los Terreros, about an hours drive from Lubrin, is another popular tourist location in the summer months. There are great beaches here for little children as they have a very steady gradient into the sea, meaning loads of lovely places for them to play safely. We also like Playa Carolina which is little further up from San Juan, here there are 2 little bays. There are beach bars during summer months. Although just small beaches, they do get very busy in August.

Vera Water Park is only open from mid June until end of August/ beginning of September. If you book online you can get a discount, I would avoid getting there at the time it opens as there is always a long que, August is the busiest month but Saturdays can be quieter as it’s traditionally change over day.

We love to visit these caves, There are daily tours, but always a good idea to contact them first to check on times and to book an English tour if required. Also good to know that the basic tour still involves some crawling and climbing.
