Thomas Kemp (1782-1844) was born in Lewes Castle. He conceived and developed the regency style Kemp Town estate at the start of the 19th century. This pub is stones throw from the apartment. It has a small beer garden and a very good kitchen. There is usually a guest DJ on Friday nights - so Friday nights are apt to be a bit noisy if you just want to eat.
Thomas Kemp fled Britain to escape his creditors and died in Paris in 1844. His grave can be found there in the famous Pére Lachaise cemetery.
