Sightseeing

Definitely a must here, its basically the house of a famous Uruguayan painter (he was very close friends with Pablo Picasso, although not Pablo’s talent). The attractive thing here is that not only his house is a unique work of art, but there you can see the best (and most famous) sunset of Uruguay. Ideally you would go 5 pm-ish and stay there for coffee of drinks until sunset, which is an amazing spectacle.

Please, take your time and make your way to this natural paradise. Laguna de Rocha, about 40 KM away from my house in Punta del Este, in my opinion is one of the nicest paces in Uruguay. Birdwatching here just has no limits, you will see a mix of birds that meet here, some of them come from Alaska, some from Australia and from everywhere around, its basically bird ERASMUS or something. And when the sun sets (or rises, both are incredible) you will see the Lagoon as a perfect mirror and you will not want to leave, this place is Magical. This is a spot where most tourists don’t go or are not aware of. I would say that even Locals many times haven’t been to this miracle of a spot.

Neighborhoods

La barra is "the other side" of town. In my personal opinion, it is even more beautiful than Punta del Este itself, it has a more relaxed and chill vibe, and this is reflected not only on the architecture/houses, but also on he pubs, bars and shops. Here you can see a bit more of the surf vibe of Punta del Este.

City/town information

Jose Ignacio is probably not only the most "chic" and exclusive place of Uruguay, but I would say is the most premium spot in the whole of Latin America. Its a little town a¡at the beach, about 20 KM from Punta del Este, where everything is made and thought with a very elegant, but rustic style. Also here you can see amazing sunsets and beaches, amazing spots for food and drinks as well. Checking out Jose Ignacio is a Must!

Food scene

This place is just amazing. Here you will eat on a budget (Budget compared to Punta del Este means that you will eat on 15 Euros per person approx / 17 US Dollars). But mainly here, not only the fish is amazing and everything food is awesome (the "pesca del día" is a fish that literally came out of the water 30 minutes ago!) But also, while you eat, you will be seeing Laguna Garzon, a natrual paradise where birdwatching is at its best. Last time I went, there was an American "Cigueña" (huge bird that was migrating from the US to another spot and does a Pit stop in Uruguay), Just chilling with her family, next to the restaurant! BTW Staff is amazing also !

Getting around Punta

Definitely the best way to get around town, and probably a must if you really want to discover the place is by Car. There is public transport (buses) that will take you almost anywhere, but due to the low demand (this applies mainly low and medium season), these services can have a long time between buses.
