The Blue Whale in Catoosa has become a beloved historic landmark along Route 66 since 1972. The Blue Whale was originally built by Hugh S. Davis, a zoologist and family man who envisioned the whale as a special place where his grandchildren could play and swim in the nearby pond. His sketches of the mammal grew until they reached 20 feet tall and 80 feet long. With the help of a friend, Harold Thomas, the duo spent two years welding the metal framework and applying the hand-mixed cement, one five-gallon bucket at a time.

Cain's gained national prominence back in the 1970s when legendary British punk group the Sex Pistols performed here, but it has been around for much longer than that. Originally constructed in 1924 by local businessman Tate Brady, the ballroom has seen several generations of musical trends come and go and come again: country and western, rock, swing, jazz, and more recently, new wave, alternative, and indie. Lots of big-name entertainers from the 1970s and 1980s performed here before they became famous, and that tradition continues today, with artists like the Foo Fighters now part of Cain's storied history.

The Redbud Valley Nature Preserve is a place of quiet beauty and rugged scenery. Here are plants and animals found nowhere else in northeastern Oklahoma. It is a very special habitat, preserved for all of us to enjoy. The trail will take you to some of the most interesting parts of the Preserve. Go slowly, open your senses, enjoy the wonders of this unique place. Redbud Valley was originally purchased by The Nature Conservancy in the late 1960's. Dr. Harriet Barclay was a professor at TU, and she spearheaded the effort to have it acquired, then worked with the Tulsa Tribune on a fund drive to raise the necessary money to repay The Nature Conservancy. TU maintained the property until the area was transferred to the City of Tulsa in 1990, and it is now managed as a part of Oxley Nature Center in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy. Under guidance from The Friends of Oxley Nature Center, the caretaker's house was renovated and the Barclay Visitor's Center created.
