Enjoy this castle on the beach sight seeing must. And don't miss the local favorite of hiking to the jetty.
Take the 1st left turn after entering the park. Drive all the way down to the parking lot with bathrooms and picnic tables. Follow the boardwalk to the beach, then walk to the jetty rock outcropping you see in the distance.
A careful step will get you to the end of the rocks over the ocean, and you can count on wildlife includng dolphins and sea turtles if you pay attention.
Don't be surprised if you feel like you're on your own private island as this local secret doesn't get many visitors, but we absolutely LOVE this well kept secret!

You can grab seafood and drinks at any of the restaurants on the inlet, and many have outdoor seating so you can enjoy the sights and inlet activities going on all around you.
While there, don't miss Goat Island. It sits right in the middle of the inlet marsh walk and is home to a family of goats.

You can grab seafood and drinks at any of the restaurants on the inlet, and many have outdoor seating so you can enjoy the sights and inlet activities going on all around you.

Though not the closest beach access, it is our favorite. Why? Bathrooms and parking!
It is also beautifully pristine with its windy roads and tree covered hiking trails.
If families call ahead, you can reserve crabbing experiences and other nature / wildlife activities for the kids.
If you are a couple or solo traveler, take advantage of the romance by veering off on a hiking trail or grab a quiet spot on the beach. Don'tbe surprised if you'rethe only one hiking. The trails are quiet and filled with beauty.

From Spring Maid Pier north to the wash in front of Damon's is the best beach for shell hunting. Why? This place hosts a great beach curve that leads to a wash, perfectly suited for an environment to bring all the shells to the shore.
We've found the big white mastodon teeth, and always a host of the small black sharks teeth here. Look for our state shell, the lettered olive, a large predatory sea snail mollusc. They are beautiful and easy to find.
And then you can sound all smart and sciencey as you show your friends...
Yep, this is the state shell. When living, it actually hold a large predatory sea snail.
Watch as their eyes grow being all impressed with you and your mad ocean science skills.
oh! and a local secret is that there is a free public beach parking lot towards the end of Spring Maid Boulevard. Take a left onto Nash St. and you've got yourself a freebie. Shhh, don't tell the locals we told you.

Hands down the best miniature gold spot on the strand.
Tips: Take the lagoon side. Anticipate having your ball eaten by the mysterious monster on the hill at the top of the climb.
Enjoy the view of the amusement park from the top of the hill hole.
Make a hole in 1 at hole 18. It earns you a wooden coin which gives you afree pass foe next time!

Broadway at the Beach has a little of everything. Live entertainment, all genres of restaurants and shops and activities and rides.
But DON'T miss the fish! Trust us, when you walk the Pier, take a minute to throw some fish food into the water and just watch...!
The water suddenly becomes a churning, boiling mass of bodies, fish bodies, crawling out and up and over each other. There is no more water or physics of sea creatures, there is only fish. Fish climbing and clamoring and breathing air for vestiges of fish food. Must see!

It's big enough to share, plus, sharing it justifies eating your favorite gelato flavor in their bakery fresh waffle cone first. I go with the dark chocolate and Ryder goes with the Stracciatela. Heavenly!
