Entertainment & Activities

Best time to go here if you can is in the middle of the day until about 3pm Monday to Friday. Some days you can get the lake to yourself almost! Otherwise there are classes to learn on the weekends you can book into if you prefer. The staff are super friendly and very helpful so don't be afraid to ask for help when learning or just ask for other things to do around the region. They all love wakeboarding! PS. BEST BURGERS AND CHIPS IN MACKAY. And they serve Tim Adams speciality coffee, craft beer + cider too, your welcome to go watch and just eat at the cafe.

Kangaroos on the beach @ sunrise... need I say anymore? You need to get up super early for this one as it's a good 45 minute to 1 hour drive to reach this place. Also please don't get too close to the kangaroos otherwise you will scare them and they will stop going to beach. If you enjoy yourself I always give $5 per person to the resort there and they will let you enjoy their much cleaner bathrooms and facilities whilst for the day. On the way back stop and eat at the Old Station Teahouse, say hi to Michelle for us.

Food Scene

On your way to Cape Hillsbourough Beach / Resort make sure you stop and eat at this place. It's an iconic old Australian Railway station that has been converted into a cafe surrounded by beautiful gardens. Michelle and Dwyane own and run the property and they are truly lovely people to meet. Make sure you tell them Amanda says hello! :) As for the food, they make everything from raw ingredients so it's always divine. They also have wood fired pizza's which is pretty rare in the Mackay region.

The breaky here is very modern but totally mouth watering. Coffee is pretty good too. Meals are around the $15- $20 and they also open for lunch but I just can’t get enough of the brekky menu and always opt for that!

You really can't go past Burp Eat Drink and The Dispensary. Best to book ahead. The owners are a long time Mackay local family and they have put their heart and soul into this place. Burp is modern Australian cuisine and right next door is the Dispensary bar which also serves a tapas style menu / cheese platters with premium drinks and a wine cellar to match. They have some quirky themed specials midweek.... Tuesday nights are “Roast + Red” Wednesday night “Paella + Pinot (this may change to Pinot and Pies) for $21 (don't get too excited it's only one glass) Best to check out their Facebook page / website to find out what is on whilst you are in town.

The Church On Palmer, is literally an old church that has been converted into a restaurant on Palmer street. This place serves the most decadent deserts too by the way. But during the week they do have a set menu special for around $35 per person mark, check their Facebook to find out what's on for the week.

Bings Nomiya, the only Japanese tapas restaurant in town but we love this little place. It's a little quirky decor wise but the food is great!

Sails Sports Bar at the Mackay Marina, if you love live music and being outdoors, this place goes off for Sunday Sesh. Popular place amongst the yachties. Nice outdoor spot on the marina to enjoy the weather! I would avoid in rainy/bad weather.
