Parks & Nature

It’s like running in a postcard because you’re close to the Seine, the Louvre, and the Champs Élysées. I start at the Concorde metro and run around the perimeter of the Jardin until I reach the Louvre’s pyramid. One lap is about 3K. After, I like to stretch by the fountain at the garden’s entrance, where I take a selfie with the big Ferris wheel. Go in the morning, around 8 am, when there aren’t too many people to get in your way.

On Sunday mornings, all the serious Parisian runners rendezvous here because it’s the biggest park in Paris and ideal for long-distance runs. There are endless paths to take and maps with suggested routes. I run around Lake Inférieur and Lake Supérieur for a 6K, but sometimes I keep going until the Hippodrome de Longchamp and back. After your run, go to the grassy area by the edge of Lake Inférieur to stretch and work on your abs. Once you are finished, reward yourself with a relaxing boat ride on the lake. It’s quiet and a nice way to enjoy nature.

There are a lot of hills and stairs, which is not very common in Paris. When you go up, it can be quite difficult, but when you go down, it’s quite nice! I go up and down, up and down—it’s fun! I usually start at the Colonel Fabien metro and run up rue Mathurin Moreau toward the park, then run clockwise. One lap is 2K. The view of Paris is really nice at the top near rue Botzaris, so it’s a great place to end a run. There are benches to use for leg extensions while looking out over Montmartre and Sacré-Coeur and all the Parisian rooftops. And the Buttes Chaumont metro is right there for your return home.

It's my favorite spot for a shakeout run in the morning. I run here without headphones because here there are only the sounds of birds and fountains. Even though it’s in the center of Paris, near all the touristy addresses, it’s a bit of a secret place. Because it’s so small, Palais Royal is great for beginners. One lap around is about 500 meters. The black and white Buren columns at the south end, near the palace, are more than just a pretty picture. Because each one is a different height, they’re great for stretching calf and thigh muscles. They could also be used for sprints. Do as many as you like, depending on your energy!

I like running at this park in the south of Paris to escape the crowds and diversify my routine! I go during the day, when the students from the nearby university are in class. One lap around the outer paved road is 1.5K. In autumn, the leaves turn incredible colors—especially the large tree in the middle of the lake. It becomes bright yellow. In the spring and summer, there is a stage that hosts live music. No need to bring headphones!

This garden in the Latin Quarter offers a rainbow of activities: running, tennis, pétanque, carousel rides. I start my 30-minute run at the Luxembourg RER station on boulevard Saint-Michel and do laps around the Jardin. If you break a shoelace don’t worry—the Nike Running store is close by on boulevard Saint-Michel. The staff there can also analyze your stride and help you find the right shoes.

Sightseeing

It’s relaxing to run on this elevated path that’s similar to the High Line in New York City because you feel like you’re not in the city anymore. You can hear the cars and people below on avenue Daumesnil, but since you are above them, they are not in your way. Enjoy the plants and flowers along the way! There are several entry and exit stairways along the route, so you can choose the stretch you like. I start at the beginning, near Bastille, and run all the way to Bois de Vincennes, which is about 4K.

There’s a cool energy here—especially at night. You can’t run at a fast pace because there are so many people out by the water, but if you start at République and go up to Quai de Jemmapes, past Jaurès, and further north to the Bassin de la Villette, it’s a fun run with an inspiring vibe. After your run, go for a drink at Le Pachyderme on Boulevard Saint-Martin in the evening, or for a croissant at Liberté in the morning. You will have earned it!
