The world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building is the most historic and most significant building (along with the Sydney Opera House) in Australia.
The building was built during the fabulous gold years of the 1880s. London, Paris and Melbourne held world expositions and the exhibition buildings in each city were built for the occasions.
In 1901 the Exhibition Building was the venue for the opening of the first parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia and parliament operated from there until Parliament House in Canberra was ready in 1926.
A visit to the Royal Exhibition Building is a revelation.
