Perfect country getaway in style! The Loft is a fully furnished, spacious, mid-century modern gem overlooking the charming town of Coleman. Light pours through the floor to ceiling, wall-to-wall windows on two sides. Fresh colors, stylish fixtures, wood floors, open plan, kitchen island, walk-in shower and generous closets in the bedrooms. Full bath upstairs, and cute half bath w/vintage pink tile & sink on the ground floor.
The original home was built in the 1940s, and this loft was once the garage/cottage apartment. After the main home was destroyed, this loft was taken down to the studs and completely remodeled in modern magnificence! The living space is all upstairs, on the second level above the garage, and consists of an open, spacious living room and full kitchen, two bedrooms, and one full bathroom with large walk-in shower. Everything is very light, open and airy, and completely modern — a true architectural gem.
One of the most magnificent features of this home is the wrap-around, floor-to-ceiling windows and the fantastic views afforded by its high hilltop perch above Coleman. Watch the sunset perched from this incredible vantage point — sunsets, the town lights twinkling below and the gorgeous starry night sky above are all outstanding from the home. The hilltop location affords great views from both the large, covered porch as well as from inside the house. Families of deer live in the surrounding woods, and the graceful creatures can often be seen strolling peacefully throughout the property, especially in the mornings and at dusk.
You've heard of Marfa, right? Don't want to drive all the way out there? Coleman is destined to be the next Marfa (but, shh, let's keep the secret!). This cute small town is the perfect Hill Country / West Texas getaway. It's being revitalized with a wine bar, fantastic pizza restaurant (seriously, they've both been written up in magazines), large mid-century modern store with quality pieces, boutiques, etc; along with longtime standbys like the Owl Drugstore, with its old-fashioned soda fountain (the second oldest in Texas) and the best burgers around! The main street, Commercial Avenue, is only two minutes down the road from the house.
Some of the top spots to check out around town are:
The Owl Drugstore
Open since 1923, the Owl is a cute little pharmacy and boutique gift store, with a small but really nice selection of clothing, jewelry, kids items, home decor, etc. It also boasts a true old-fashioned soda fountain — the second oldest one in Texas — and serves great breakfasts and hamburgers.
Rancho Loma Vineyards RLV Wine Bar
RanchoLoma is a vineyard and hotel located in Talpa, only a 15-minute drive from here and well worth going to for a wonderful prix fixe, fine dining experience on Friday and Saturday nights (reservations required). But right here in Coleman on Commercial Avenue, you’ll find their wine bar. Here you can do wine tastings paired with cheese plates and buy bottles of their wine if you choose. It’s a really beautiful space as well.
Also owned by RLV, this fantastic restaurant serves wood-fired pizza and thoughtfully selected Texas wines. The intention is to build a sense of community around great food and beverage.
Coleman County Museum & Gallery
Displaying interesting history from the county along with a gallery of works by local artists. Open June to August - Fridays through Wednesdays. April, May and September - Saturday and Sunday. Afternoons only.
Bonneville Mid-Century Antiques & Vinyl Record Shop
Beautiful, incredible collection of true period pieces, high quality. The retro vinyl selection is also fun to look through. If you love mid-mod, you will love browsing this store. Collectors actually come from all over Texas (and even out of state) just to buy pieces here.
An old-fashioned, small-town type general store (more of a boutique gift shop) with lots of really cool stuff.
Whiskey Chasin Dance Hall & Saloon
Pretty old-school bar and live music dance hall. Fun Texas honky-tonk time.
Big O’s Barbecue (Valera)
About a 15 minute drive away, this is one of the most highly touted BBQ joints in West Texas. Tiny place (with one bathroom, labeled transgender with a taped up sheet of paper). Awesome barbecue & burgers, and don’t miss out on the butter fries. Hey, there are no calories on vacay, right?
