As the house is old, there is no elevator and you will have to climb the traditional steep stairs (like a monkey) to get to the attic. Built in 1900, the Harbor Office emerged when the city’s canals could no longer handle the thriving industry and intense shipping traffic of the late 19th century, prompting the creation of the Laakhaven. From here, the harbor master and his deputies managed daily port operations.

There is great history behind the hotel. The Vergulden Eenhoorn was established in 1702 as a city farm and used to be one of very few farmhouses the city of Amsterdam has. Together with the city of Amsterdam the farmhouse was fully renovated to modern standards, while maintaining the historic value and its features.
