Ski and snowboard at Holiday Mountain (15 mins), ice fishing on Yankee Lake, hunters welcome, visit breweries and distilleries, Resort World Casino (15min). Relax indoors with a wood burning stove, wifi, games, books, and maybe try chopping wood. Plus thrifting, restaurants and we can give more recommendations.
Located 90 minutes north of New York City in the western Catskills, the Clipper Cottage is a country retreat. Set on an acre next to Yankee Lake and on the top of the West Shawangunk Ridge in the scenic Catskill Mountains. There are activities all year round, lakeside, ice fishing, 15 minutes from skiing, hiking, hunting, ATVs and dirt bikes, horse back riding and wineries to name a few.
The house has 2 bedrooms, one with a super comfortable memory foam queen mattress and a/c. The second room has a full spring bed with an equally comfortable quilted mattress topper. Each bedroom has a spacious closet. There are 2 full bathrooms, one located upstairs and the other downstairs. The upstairs has an extra deep bathtub great for long baths while the downstairs has a newly renovated glass shower. You can look down on the first floor from the second floor landing.
You can stay cozy in the living room by the wood burning stove. We have a 3 person sofa with arm chair where you can sit and watch Netflix and Amazon on our SmartTV. Wifi is available at the cabin. HDMI is available to hook a computer to the TV. The high ceiling and open layout make the home feel very spacious and airy. The galley style kitchen is newly renovated with stainless steel appliance and a dishwasher. In the dining room, the table can seat 4-6. It leads to sliding doors with a small patio and two outdoor armchairs. This spot is perfect a morning coffee or glass of wine in the evening.
A favorite spot is the reading nook next to the living room. Surrounded by windows, it's easy to curl up with a book and drift off for an afternoon power nap. The cabin has light games and some reading material.
Our cabin is located in a perfect spot during the fall/winter season. We’re 10 minutes from NY-17, and off of the main road and have a short driveway, making us very accessible. There is skiing, snowboarding, and tubing 20 minutes from us. Hunters are welcome during the hunting season and Yankee Lake has some of the best ice fishing in the New York area. You can reach out to us if you are looking for actives to do in the fall/winter months.
From spring to fall, the property is just about spending as much time outside as it is inside. In an area to the right of the home is a landscaped section with chaise lounges, outdoor poufs, and a portable fire pit. This area is great for tanning, reading, relaxing or roasting marshmallows. To the left of the property by the porch is a large outside dining area with table seating for 6. We have a large grill that is available for guests to use. There is also another fire pit with seating. On the lawn near the edge of the woods is a Buddha statue, an ideal place for some meditation. Trying bringing camping gear and pitching a tent on the property to experience a luxurious outdoor experience.
If you walk 5 minutes down the end of the road you will reach the entrance to Yankee Lake. It's a year round lake. In the summer it's perfect for swimming, paddle boarding, tubing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. In the winter there is ice fishing and ice skating. Note that there are no gas motor boats allowed on Yankee Lake which means it maintains its pristine quality all year round. We are two red kayaks and an inflatable two-seater kayak that you can use on the lake. Feel free to bring your own unicorn, swan, or pizza floaties that are becoming super popular and take them to the lake with you.
Resort World Catskills Hotel and Casino will be opening in February, 100,000 square feet of Las Vegas-style gaming, including 2150 cutting-edge slot machines, over 150 live table games and poker room. Not to mention a 10,000 square-foot spa, an all-suite hotel designed to 5-star standards, and 10 exclusive bar and restaurant experiences.
We bought the house in January and then had a long term renter that stayed still the end of May. We really love the area because we have friends that live in Bethel, Masten Lake, and Livingston Manor.
We are in a hamlet called Mamakating, in the town of Wurstboro. It's convenient because it's located between Middletown and Monticello where you can get a bit of suburban convenience with shopping complex, restaurant, and movies. There are a lot of parks and lakes in the area and it's located near towns like Bethel, Livingston Manor, and Ellensville. The area has a rich outdoorsy life all year round. There are ATV and MX trails within 10 minutes of our cabin, we allow guests to bring their ATVs and dirt bikes etc, just give us a heads up. Some of the best hunting and fishing in New York State. Yankee Lake is especially known for its superb ice fishing. Also, biking is very popular in the area and recommend bringing your bikes for some more outdoor adventuring.
There are great vintage thrift and furniture stores less than 25 minutes from the cabin. The next town over is Rock Hill and it's so cute and we like eating in that town. Farmer's Market starts in Rock Hill on June 1 and May 27th starts Pine Bush through the end of October. Opening in February is the Resorts World Catskills Casino, which is only 5 minutes from the cottage.
