This is the place where the city began in 1703. The Fortress was was founded by an edict of Peter the Great. The oldest buildings are located here. The Tomb of the Imperial Family is adjacent to the Peter and Paul Cathedral. An ancient city tradition - shooting from a cannon located on the fortress wall at 12 o'clock in the afternoon daily notifies about the arrival of noon.
